Hi,

I'm 29 and have recently started feeling discomfort in my back, like its a strain to sit completely straight. I also get discomfort when I'm doing physical exertion, e.g. using a lawn mower, doing the vacuuming, etc.

As I'm beyond my adolescent years I think its something more than simply a postural thing and the excessive curve is showing up when viewing my back.

Thanks,
Craig

If at your age, you have discomfort standing up and doing things, the chances are you have very poor core strength. #1 cause of low back pain.

Do some research on core exercises and do them and I bet your back pain will go away or get a referral for physical therapy and learn from them.

You "core" is your torso....those muscles support your entire spine and if they are weak, your back will hurt and eventually you will end up with injuries and you don't want to go there.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" and it has never been truer than with back problems.

I had cervical kyphosis about 10 years ago. From what I remeraber one of the main problems that I had was that I could not bring my neck into proper alignment. It was as though my neck was being pushed forward and I could not maintain a proper posture.
It turned out that yes I did have kyphosis. I don't recall how much it was off by but the surgery that I went thru was a 12 hour surgery done in 2 parts. the first part was done posterior which put in harrington roRAB from c3 to about t4 level. The following week they did a bone graft from the anterior position at 3 levels if I remeraber correctly. The first part of the surgery was 8 hours the 2nd part 4 hours. Then wearing a neck collar for about 4 to 5 months.
The surgery was done in NY by an orthopedist. The surgery was successful but now I have developed stenosis in the cervical region.
Good luck and let us know what your diagnosis is.
