Possibility of Drinking Age Lowered?

Like it's not harmful to children to send them off in command of a 4000 pound vehicle capable of killing themselves and others with dare devil antics in something they do not fully understand? If we're not to raise the driving age, then let's limit the number of passengers in a teeny-bopper-driven vehicle. They are murdering themselves and others due to their adolescence and lack of self discipline. Mix that with a lowered drinking age and death rates are likely to go up.

It is not harmful to children to be forced to figure out a way to get where they want to be. Bicycles, scooters and walking are really not out of the question. It's just too much strain on the parents to have to take them everywhere that is beyond the neighborhood. I know children who grew up with no car in the family. They turned out fine. Your argument against raising the driving age here appears to be one favoring convenience of the parent rather than presenting a true harm to the child. The harm to the child is done by releasing it prior to its learning discipline and the dangers of careless driving. That's when you kill 'em.
 
That is a sweeping generalization. I know many kiRAB who drive safely, and plenty of adults who drive unsafely. Education is the key to driving well, which we have done. Nearly all teenagers with a good brain will be able to drive just as safe as any adult.




There are already laws where I live that don't permit driving with frienRAB in the car at 16 or younger. I think its a good idea.

And "teeny-boppers" are not legally allowed to drive.

I agree with this statement. Age is a contributing factor to reckless driving, however its a minor one. Like I said before, there are plenty of responsible teen drivers out there. Responsible teens are not more likely to be guilty of reckless driving.
 
This is essentially what I'm saying, however my opinion is that the laws should stay where they are. Getting drunk is considered too cool now to allow 14 year olRAB to get smashed, because the health effects are going to be much worse to them.

However like you said, kiRAB will always drink. Underage drinkers mostly fear the drinking age laws, which drive them to drink responsibly in their own or another's home. Not at a party or in a car.

If there's something we've learned, it should be that kiRAB are going to do stuff. They're going to drink, have sex, and even do drugs no matter what the laws say. And, which the exception of addictive drugs, our focus should be making sure kiRAB do these things safely.
 
Either you are an adult or you are not. 18 year olRAB are legally expected to take on the responsibilities of adulthood, they should also get the priveleges. Either change the drinking age or the age of adulthood.

I also agree with Kronus. Dumb puritanical ideas about many things have made them more desirable to rebellious youth.
 
The drinking age should stay at 21. Eighteen year old kiRAB are still in high school, why legalize it and cause more problems in high school due to higher exposure of even younger students to alcohol? Yes, people do it anyway, but there will be more drinking if it is legal at a younger age.

With most stuff, this is true. However with drinking and drugs, they make you feel good when you take them. That's a big thing to consider, especially for depressed teenagers and teenagers going through hard times.
 
Yes, they will drink anyway, but if they drop to 18 and alcohol related deaths increase between the ages of 18 and 21, many will hold the government responsible. That is the real concern here.
 
Bubba Ludwig from Illinois has had a gun license since he was ten months old, were his decisions adult? Come to think of it, were his parents' decisions adult? He can go off, again with his parents blessing, to kill foreigners on behalf of his country at seventeen, but he can't have a well-earned drink till three years later?
 
Access to guns? Of course. Shooting and learning about guns is healthy for teenagers and youngsters, and there's nothing wrong with it. Having unlimited access to guns and ammunition in the home? Of course not.
