Positioning of hood vents relative to the air filter?

I ordered hood louvers for my wrangler and am wondering if it would be wise to position them in a place that puts them near or a good distance from the air filter. I have a banks air intake which has a cone filter inside a plastic housing with an opening at the top pointed away from the engine. The hood closes down very close to this opening which I feel restricts air flow at high rpm. This Jeep see's a lot of mud though which would not be good if mud started running down into the vent and onto the air filter. Would you suggest placing the vent a good distance from the filter just to be safe, or perhaps placing it directly next to the opening on the filter housing?
These are the louvers I ordered btw.
