Porting from Fido to Koodo?

Hi there,

My contract with Fido will be ending soon on February 22nd, 2011. (Thank goodness.)
I wasn't told that I had to call 30 days early to let them know that I'm not renewing my contract, so I called them today. Apparently, I will still have to pay them about 18 days(?) after my contract is over because they needed 30 days to process. (which is totally stupid, because once a contract expires, it should just end.)

Also, can you explain to me how the "early cancellation fee" works? I'm not cancelling early, I'm just not going to renew my contract. So they can't charge me a ECF, right?

If I port out my number to Koodo about 3 days earlier, will it count as "early cancellation". Or what if I port it the day my contract ends, will there be any charges?
