Popular music in commercials

Does it bug you to hear a song you grew up loving and identifying to being used to sell a car, a fast food chain, or anything for that matter?

I will admit it does bug me on a "that was my song, how dare they use it to sell soap" level. On another level I feel it is kind of fitting because the song itself was originally created to promote that artist/band as well as their album and now it almost kills two birRAB with one stone promoting another product as well as introducing that song to a new generation.

Anyway, what do you think?

it bugs me more to hear people whine about it than actually hearing the song in the ad. (not trolling just saying)

it generally seems that the people who complain the most when they hear a tune they grew up with in an ad are the ones who are having the hardest time dealing with the fact that they're getting old and that their time in the spotlight of mainstream media has passed.

it was NEVER 'my' song, but a piece of the soundtrack that shaped my youth.

I personally like it because it brings back memories and just like Sleepy Jack fire I will start to dance while cooking some eggs on the stove ( this morning lol)

I don't see what the big deal is with it, but some artists do surprise me when they allow their music to be used for commercials. For instance, I never thought I'd hear a Sting song on a car commercial.

This one is one of my favorites....

I think I said this last time this topic came up. But ANYONE who thinks they can use The Fall to sell cars to people in a multi million pound ad campaign must have balls the size of grapefruits.

I think the only thing that really 'bothers me is when people only know that band because of a commercial or product. For example whenever Danzig is brought up, or watched on youtube, every comment is "OMGG THIS IS ON GH2 I LOVE THAT GAME !!!!".

And if you dont beleive how annoying that is, go see for yourself.

I'm so glad commercials have used Queen recently, I would rather hear great songs from the past than friggin that, one, band... the one with the fat dude and Peter something.. really crappy emo band... dang, now I have to look it up, ah, Fall Out Boy. Or something by One Republic.

I would rather my song be known for being in guitar hero then for selling shoes, but I get your point and it is a very valid one.

Yeah, I was wondering how long it would be until this song was used in a car commercial.
