Poor Characters In Animation

Lila's family from Hey Arnold is poor, though her father got a job at the end of Ms Perfect. We don't see any of her family after that episode.

Lila's a pretty good example, though i'm not sure if she stayed that way.

Another example would be The Chipettes. I think they were dirt poor orphans that worked odd jobs until they were adopted. Correct me if i'm wrong.

And then Roger and his mother improbably became millionaires when the series moved to ABC/Disney...

Are there any Nancy cartoons? Sluggo is so poor in the comic strip that he can't afford good clothes and his roof has holes in it. It's played for laughs but it makes me sad. Why doesn't someone help the boy?

The poverty of the Ronin-type struggling student seems to be a big thing in anime like Maison Ikkoku. They have to pinch every penny and keep a close watch on their pot noodle stash.

And Butch actually had the courage to constantly mock Chester for it. Several of the running gags in the series were related to Chester and his dad's poverty. I don't think I've actually seen that in a kid's cartoon before
