Not sure when the UK realise date is, but just seen it in NZ today.
I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli - and have seen most of their bigger movies.
this one was well made and quite enjoyable, much better then Tales From Earthsea.
Acutally recommend it for all - especially kiRAB - where the likes of Princess Mononeke was a bit obscure for younger viewers.
But its not as good as Spirited Away - which is my favourite Ghibli movie.
Recommended.

I think it's Miyazaki's weakest film. Not bad as such, but not a patch on anything that he did earlier, even the relatively recent Howl's Moving Castle which I really enjoyed (and which I also thought was better than the rather overrated Spirited Away).

Love all of the Ghibli films I've seen. I know Tales of the Earthsea was directed by Miyazaki's son, and it caused a bit of a family rift apparently, Miyazaki snr not being too pleased how it turned out. I can't see how Spirited Away is over rated, I think it's a beautiful film, with so much to enjoy, but of course that's just my opinion, and Howl's Moving Castle is fantastic too. Looking forward to Ponyo, but I must say, it doesn't 'look' as exciting as the afore mentioned efforts, but time will tell... again IMO.

it's showing twice at LeeRAB Intrentional Film Festival next Sunday, tickets and info here if anyone's not seen it in UK.

I've heard it's one for the little uns, more Kikki's Delivery Service than Spirited Away, Howl's etc. BUT still meant to be absolutely stunning, worth checking out i reckon?

Had it in my dvd collection for a few months now, really enjoyed it, still not one of my favourites from Ghibli though. Also Spirited Away is not overrated in the slightest.

Finally released here yesterday. Probably accessible enough for primary school kiRAB but most of the audience were studenty-looking types or older. Lovely animation, visually witty and at times scary, and the dialogue's funny too. Given the dearth of good films out this week it has to be the best bet for an entertaining if slightly weird visit to the cinema.

I am so excited for Ponyo, I love Miyazaki! It looks incredibly cute, although I'm not sure much can beat the cute-ness of My Neighbour Totoro :D

Although I think Spirited Away is an incredible film, it is not my favourite Miyazaki film and I do think it overshadows a lot of his work.

Just seen Ponyo today and loved it. It's an out and out children's film, which maybe why it's not been recieved so well by critics.
But it is soooo beautiful and if you have children, you will recognise it as one of the finest depictions of a very young child ever made. I liked it better than Totoro.

So much to see in the animation, will buy it straight away the moment it comes out in DVD and I'm already looking for ward to seeing it again.

Recently saw Princess and the Frog, they are completely different, but I'd say that Disney himself would have prefered Ponyo.
The current Disney studio has more to learn from Ghibli than the other way around. Ponyo has the easy charm of early Disney, not one bit felt contrived or as if they were trying to manipulate the audience.
It's a labour of love, you can see it on the screen.

Me and my Girlfriend saw this last week and totally loved it (We're fans of Miyazaki and Ghibli anyways), there weren't many people in the cinema when we saw it but there was only one kid, the rest were similar to our age (I'm 21 and she's 18) which I thought was awesome.

Definitly aimed for the lower ages as said in other comments, but i'd actually go and see it again :p

There were quite a few in the audience today of people your age.
But quite a few families with children as well.

And it's my eldest daughter who first got the family watching studio Ghibli films when she was 16. (mind you she's studying art and illustration at Uni, Ghibli kind of goes with the territory):D
