Ponyo to open on over 800 theaters.

A new trailer for Ponyo has come out.

I gotta admit this comes as a surprise, as usually they'd only make one trailer.
They're really going all out with this!

Geez, I can't believe that all five of my local theaters don't have listings for Friday yet! You'd think they'd have that info out in advance.

Ever since we expanded from three to five theaters two years ago we tend to get most limited releases, but I'm still worried. I'll travel to the nearest big city if need be.

Upon further research, the film is also playing at a theater in south Sarasota, too. Pretty sweet.

My question now is...why no reviews in my local papers? Other new films are reviewed, including a glowing one for District 9. Disney ensures their other releases get reviewed just before or on the day of release and those appear in newspapers. Why not Ponyo? Maybe they'll have one during the weekend, but why not earlier?

Anybody else notice this?

Yeah but, they could've made money and still kept the same theme.

Looking back at Nausicaa, I somehow doubt that. And, where'd it say Toriyama was fine with DB: E? Curious on that.

No, they'll just send them a katana blade saying "No Cuts" on it.

I think the differences are big enough to not need explaining.

Then you obviously don't want this film (and future Miyazaki films to succeed here.

The fact of the matter is that the two Jonas and Cyrus siblings have had bit parts in non-Disney movies for a few years now, and I don't recall their presence ruining the films.

This will be the breakout role for both of them. I can only wish them success.

Damn it.....

Hey, does any body mind giving me a few sites to check for showtimes? My sister leaves for college on the 15, it comes out on the 14, and we were all gonna go see it as a bit of a 'last family get-together before she's gone' thing, seeing as we all love Ghibli's films.(IDC what anybody says, Princess Mononoke will always reign supreme.)

Anyway, can abody help me out? I've checked a few sites, but they've either shown up blank, or way too distant for us to go see. It's as if the entire East Coast is out of the movie.

What's going to make or break is how much people like it, especially since this isn't getting a full release. I don't like how so many animated movies use star power to attract people either , but who cares? We're past the era of when nobody knew nor cared who the voice actors were in cartoons. And for crying out loud, Disney's doing the dub, what do you expect?

If you think about it, it did work out with Sprited Away and Princess Mononoke butLasseter probably did a test run of the film with the original theme and some of the audiences thought that the song should be more kiddified since Disney is trying to throw Noah Cyrus and Frankie Jonas in our faces because of their siblings' star power.

I thought I saw something in ANN about it but I could be wrong.

Fandango.com shows two theaters in Colurabia that are showing Ponyo. Check the site and put in your zip code to find any theaters closer.

Oh you mean the infamous "Warriors of the Wind" edit? Yeah, Miyazaki and Ghibli were quite enraged about that one, but that was mainly because the studio behind it did far, far, far worse things than Disney ever did to these movies. The studio responsible for Warriors chopped Nausicaa down from its 2 hour running time, overemphasized the action scenes (from what I've heard), and disoriented the music... all without Miyazaki's knowledge. Because of that disaster, he has issued a firm statement that no adaptation of his movies should be done under HIS permission and that there should not be a single frame cut.

LarryJojo and creativerealms, you're both probably right. I DO tend to overact a little TOO much when I see haters for any of these dubs, because these are some of my all-time favorite dubs to listen to. Not that they're the ONLY dubs I like listening to; I have enjoyed other dubs just as immensely, like Lodoss OVA, Nadia (ADV), Slayers, Fullmetal Alchemist, His and Her Circumstances... the list of dubs I enjoy goes on and on. It's just that I get a little TOO sensitive when I hear some individual say that any of the Ghibli dubs is the worst dub of all time. Perhaps I AM being a little TOO overreactive.

Yeah, that would lead to more Miyazaki films with Disney stars in the lead. If Disney realizes that if they put Disney stars or the kin of Disney stars in the lead will sell more tickets, they'll keep doing it. That's why I'm not going to support this movie.

That was a really awesome trailer. It really makes me want to see the movie in theaters as apposed to waiting for a DVD release as I usually do nowadays. I agree that they're doing quite a bit to promote this movie.

I saw the promo on the CW4KiRAB this morning too. It was cool, but kind of weird at the same time. From the looks of the trailers and aRAB, it does seem to be a nice movie and I hope it does too.

I'm already sick of this movie after watching it numerous times on DVD.
Don't know if I'm willing enough to fork out another 10 bucks to see this dubbed in English.

But if they do a good job, why should that matter? It shouldn't matter how they VAs got the job, if they can back it up with excellent acting from excellent voice directors, then there's no reason to hate them for doing a good job.

I can't wait, in only 24 hours I'll be in watching Ponyo!

Also Glad to see Mr. Ebert enjoyed the movie, Hopefully Taking my family with me will get them to enjoy Myazaki/Ghibli Films as much as I do. (or at least make them like em enough to let me watch em on the big TV in the Den that there always hogging...LULZ!)

But Yea, Can't wait, & I somewhat envy the Various Film Critics for Newspapers that may be Going to the Mignight Showing Of Ponyo Tonight. Those lucky dogs!
