Pontiac grand am se 2001 security problem...?

I was driving home today (going 40mph) when my car suddenly just cut out, like i had taken the key out of the ignition. When i pulled over i noticed that the security light was on.

The car started straight away and drove fine, but would the security light cause it to just cut out whilst driving steady at 40mph?

Anyone know what could have caused this to happen?
