Pontiac G6 break pad life?

Approximately how many miles should new break pads last on a G6. I understand that how one drives (hard breaking.. etc) is a factor. I'm just looking for an average.
I purchased a car and was told that the breaks were new. When I look at the specs for the breaks it shows 7 and 8 mm thickness. Through research, I believe that 10-12 mm is the thickness of new pads. I've put 18,000 miles on the breaks and am being told they are shot. Did I get scammed when I bought the car?
Also, my tires were measured at 6 and 7 (of 32). After 18,000 miles they are in horrible shape. They are "cupping" and wearing only on the edges. The dealership claims there is nothing wrong with the car as far as the tires wearing in such an odd manner. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I had 7-8 18,000 miles ago. I was told they were new then. Obviously they weren't because now I know they should have been 10-12.

on a rough average most vehicles first set of brake pads will last about 30,000mi depending mostly on the driver, the second set will get about 20,000 and each set after that will get about 10-15,000 unless the calipers are being replaced also.

your tire wear sounds like aggressive driving, which also explains why you need brakes

brake are easy to do at home really and yes alot depends on driver but also pad type more the pads cost longer they last most get at least 15 to 20,000 miles not bad,, some get more some dont... really depends on freeway driving or city driving more you stop faster pads wear ive wore a set out in less than 10,000 should last a year or two easy,,tire wear cupping is balance or a shock thing and or not right air but mostly balance or shocks not right you can find many car repairs online by typing into search box so start with

if you still have 7-8mm left on the pads, that's plenty. most new brake pads have 'squealers' in them that start screeching badly when it's time to replace the pads. They aren't shot unless they're squealing and not stopping the car.

Tires should be replaced and if you get a decent set, the cupping shouldn't be an issue.
