Pontiac Fiero dash light problems..?

I have an 86 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 and the dash lights have been going nuts lately also the speedometer has not been working. 9 times out of 10 the back light for the dash components will not work and neither will the speedo but every once and a while everything works. Anyone with any clues please respond
 
Take the car out in the middle of nowhere light a match and walk away. What a crap heap of a car! Now is the time to buy a new one!!!!
