starter, or a Lights Out closer? I know the trading deadline is well past, but let's just pretend there isn't one. What kind of player would you want your favorite team's GM to trade for? For comparison sake, lets say each of the players is in their prime. Also your team won't give up anything but prospects.

A) Thunderous MVP batter (High average, excellent power, clutch)
B) Cy Young starting pitcher (Low era, high strike outs, low walks)
C) Lights out closing pitcher (Extremely low era, very high strike outs)
D) None of the above, our team doesn't need improvement (yeah right)

B) Pitching wins championships. Plus, Lester and Wakefield are the only starters we have who aren't struggling right now'


EDIT: Make that one pitcher who's not struggling now. Wakefield's out AGAIN
 
For the Red Sox, I guess I would go with closer. I'd hate to have to give up a fan-favorite and homegrown talented pitcher, but Billy Wagner could take over. Once he retires Daniel Bard could fill in. If he has trouble, Bard, Okajima, or Saito could fill in as closer.
 
we have a pitcher that is in the cy young contest
so probably A) but we do have a batter with excellent power
another one with a high average
and one with a good clutch
but it would be nice to have one with all of them
