Jules,
I had my VR and VR bracket replaced under the recall, but if truth be told, it was working fine.
The VR issue is basically the same as the radiator and rear sprocket issue. Which is to say, only a tiny fraction of the bikes produced were affected. The difference between the radiator problem and the VR/sprocket problems is that the latter problems are safety issues whereas a radiator leak is not. That's why Ducati recalled the rear sprockets and VR's, and not the radiators. Recalls are only done when there's a safety issue; it has nothing to do with how wide-spread the problem is. If the problem doesn't create a safety hazard, the manufacturer will just wait for the faulty units to fail on individual bikes and replace them as they go rather than replacing all the units. Regardless of how wide-spread the problem is, it's not going to affect every bike, so if there's no safety issue involved, it doesn't make any sense to replace each and every one. brett explained this concept in a related thread, (http://www.ducatispot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21458, post #9), but apparently, some people, ("IDK," for example), are having difficulty wrapping their heads around this truth. But I digress.
In my opinion, this poll won't reveal much, because when there's a recall, virtually everybody complies, whether they're affected or not. After all, failure to comply with a recall compromises your warranty. What the stats will show is that most people who had their VR swapped out under the recall had no problem prior to the recall.
