Poll: Rad problem or not? What year if you had one?

Sorry again about the 2007's guys, slipped up.

But I think that it's really interesting already that you can see the difference between the 08 and 09 respondents.

So what would a petition really do? I think it'll be obvious that Ducati already addressed the problem in the newer bikes and are just replacing the rads as needed on older models.

Course as this polls goes on I could be proved wrong.

agh, edit* (proven wrong), I'm imagining Elton wincing here.

Ducati’s 1098 is being recalled over two separate problems, the firm said today, Monday, May 14, 2007.

A statement issued by the firm said: “There are currently two safety recalls for the 1098 which are being dealt with under usual Department of Transport guidelines. The first recall concerns the cam belt pulley tensioners which were found to not be within specified tolerances during the early production of the bike. The second recall is for the fuel pipe clips which are checked for proper installation. In both cases the number of bikes affected is very small.”

I received my ECU recall letter on Fri 3/7/08. I called Ducati Service(Houston EXIMPORT) and they said that I could bring the bike in anytime but would have to leave it with them for 3 weeks! The service guy said that they have to take the ECU out and send it to California....Anyone else get a story like this?

I am not a Ducati owner but my best friend was and had purchased the 1098 in early March of 07. Three weeks later he was killed in a crash riding this bike. From what we understand is that the bike stalled while he was leaning into a right turn and caused him to go into oncoming traffic killing him. I just heard of this recall and was curious if anyone else has had a similar result but not ending so horrific.

Good links but it's still a 2007 production year and it's a bit of a stretch calling it a 2006 if someone picked it up in December.

I bought my 2010 848 in December 2009, it's still a 2010 production model with all the 2010 modifications on the cam belts, crankcase and dash.

I was just pointing out why Ducati is not going to recall the rads, they've fixed the problem (most likely) and I can say we've yet to hear of someone getting refused a free replacement on their bike.

Free is free, right?
 
yes i agree. i doubt they will ever do a recall. they would probably just deal with it on a case-by-case basis, and offer an extended warranty on the replaced part. and as someone else had observed, i appears that nobody has been denied a free radiator swap yet.

my impression based on four breakdowns already because of various issues including the leaking radiator, is that ducati will always look after their customers, so from that perspective i'm not worried. its the inconvenience part that gets to be the real problem, and nobody can put a guarantee on that, right - its part of life
 
It's funny, I'd almost be tempted to do another poll to ask how many of us still bought Ducati's even though we had heard/read that they are higher maintenance and/or have more problems (perhaps unfairly attributed given that there is a smaller number sold) than the Japanese brands.

I know that I'm one.
 
I wasn't looking for an apology, it wasn't like you hurt my feelings. I was just saying that by leaving out a whole model year you're going to get skewed results.
 
The reason why it is free right now is because most of us is still under warranty. What happens when it runs out??
Will it still be free??
 
Hi Jules - I can't record my TWO failed radiators as mine is a 2007, and is of course now out of warranty...
As for the suggestion to ask my dealer; a bit difficult as we currently don't actually have one!
Ducati Adelaide closed their doors last Saturday, and although rumours abound as to Honda World picking up the baton, this has not happened yet.
Not really getting that warm, fuzzy sense of distributor support of my Ducati at the moment...
