Polish bus drivers.

Then why the hell hire them to a job that requires you to speak and read english?

One of the bus companies here in south wales decided for some reason to hire a truckload (pun intended) of eastern european drivers the overwhelming majority of which can't speak or read english.. other than "yes" or "no" and have basic knowledge of operating the ticket machine.

Anyway, as I was taking my brother to school today I had to buy the more expensive bus ticket (

Well... To start with... The English drive on the wrong side of the road.
Then the Bus Company of course has an upper class twit as a boss, who isn't even able to shoot his own foot off if he had a gun.
How do you expect such a twit to explain all the details of British transport in a few hours, that the British even don't understand after years of training?

I don't think that's what he's complaining about. I think it's more the point that irresponsible companies totally turn a blind eye to good customer service practices by hiring people with a poor grasp of the indigenous language.

It may not be an issue in some roles, but in a job where you're dealing directly with the end user of your product or service, this presents a problem. Had this driver understood English, he may have gotten the point that the ticket is a transportation network ticket, and not a company specific ticket.

I've had the same problem both here and in the states. Plenty of times I've had to deal with someone in a store or restaurant that I was unable to understand, or whom could not understand me. The blame lies with the employer. They should put non-English speakers in roles where they don't have to deal directly with end users. Certainly not in such a crucial role as an operator in the transportation infrastructure.

Every bus driver in Wales should not only speak fluent English, but Welsh as well.

It doesn't bother me when someone can't speak english. I have such a hard time even with thick american accents that i've given up on understanding anyone not from the southwest.
