I figure if I were to search the word Pokemon I'd have so many pages of hits, but I'd rather start my own thread for Poke-discussion.

I first watched episodes of Pokemon when I was a teenager in the late nineties, and watched the occasional episode of the Johto Journies and a couple episodes of the Diamond and Pearl series. *Most of what I know about the D&P series comes from Bulbapedia.

My favorite character out of that bunch is Brock. I like how he's so knowledgable and the voice of reason a lot, and yet that all goes out the window when he runs into any good looking girl. (I especially like it when Croagunk poison jab and drags him away).

I heard theory on youtube (written as a response to Croagunk's poison jabs) that Brock is married to someone and they sent a newly met Croagunk back in time to prevent Brock's Misadventures. (I think that someone is Holly, because Croagunk didn't poison jab him around her in at least one episode and she reciprocated his affections or at least seemed to).

Any rate, I'd like to use this thread to catch up on a newly caught interest in the Pokemon series.
 
Well, I've been a Pokemon fan since the start. My first episode was "Pikachu's Goodbye." It was so sad and I still love it.

My favorite character would have to be May, with Ash as my second favorite. I loved how she developed from a trainer that couldn't even remeraber Torchic's attacks to one of the top Coordinators around. I loved how her Torchic evolved since I took that as a syrabol as how May was growing as a trainer herself. I also thought that she had some great rivals like Drew and Harley. I think that's why I prefer the Contests in AG over the Contests in D/P since Dawn doesn't interest me as much as May did. I liked her throughout the beginning season of Diamond and Pearl, but she became less interesting to me in Battle Dimension. Ash is my second favorite since I have enjoyed seeing his strength as a trainer grow in each region. I also love how he's so close with Pikachu.

Even though it's probably obvious, my favorite Pokemon is Lucario. I've loved the design ever since I first saw it on a Japanese poster for the Lucario movie. It looked awesome. Once I saw the Lucario movie, I totally loved it from then on. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew became my favorite movie as well for its emotional storyline, with some nice twists thrown in there as well.
 
My favorite all time Pokemon are Mankey and Primeape. My favorite episodes are Primeape Goes Bananas, obviously, Go West Young Meowth, and Ghost of Maiden's Peak. Other favorites are Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar as well as Meowth and Persian. I personally thought Ghost of Maiden's Peak could've used a sequel, maybe where Gastly makes good on his promise and helps the Maiden's Ghost move on.

I'm actually interested in writing a future Pokemon/Kingdom Hearts crossover type fanfiction in the future, it'll probably be based on the Diamond and Pearl series, but there's only a few ideas in my head as of now, nothing concrete yet...
 
Well, personally, I still say the first season of Pokemon was great. All 87 eps...Or was that 86 eps? Anyways, I also still say what 4kiRAB done to Pokemon is the only decent dub they ever did. Yeah, they did change somethings off from the JP version, but this is one of those dubs I really don't care about that.
 
I liked the Kanto and Johto episodes for the most part, this is just my opinion, but I thought the show got kinda boring after Hoenn came along and they replaced Misty with May and Max.
 
Just ordered the first box from Deep Discount, it'll be interesting to see how the original episodes hold up (I've seen some of the new episodes, but I'm not really into them... too much battling, not enough story). If not, it's still good for nostalgia
 
Personally I like Brock as a character. His goals seem more mature and he's often a mature and level head (except where attractive females are concerned). I think his best episode in the first series was Ghost of Maiden's Peak, his contemplative side was really shown when he fell in love with the Maiden's Ghost.

I also like the scenes in D&P where Croagunk knocks Brock out and drags him off. This leaRAB me to agree with the youtube video comment in my original post...Any thoughts on that?
 
I liked the humor to be found in the Anime and the premise of the Pokemon journey. I found the group dynamics of the first season to be humorous. Brock being mostly a source of wisdom and knowledge (that tending to go out the window of a beautiful girl was involved). Ash being the example of youthful impetuousness and determination. And Misty being somewhat similar but having her own views.
 
The first season was good fun. It had an obvious point and some decent character development which suprised me. I was used to cartoons talking about some goal they would never achieve but here Ash got all the badges and competed in the league. It was a more fulfilling experience.
I don't think it's held up though and the more recent seasons are clearly all about advertising. The initial sense of wonder is gone and the show is pretty much on a loop, changing the cast and line up based on which game neeRAB to be advertised. It's not for me.
 
My problem with it is that they don't let Ash win. Why can't Ash become a master and then have to defend his title? Everybody wants to take down a champion. And in the interim you can still have him explore the world and stuff. But no. Instead Ash travels, he discovers a new Pokemon, he beats team rocket, they meet a new Nurse Joy or Police Jenny. Meh. Mix it up! Though it sounRAB like they do with the movies, to be fair.

Seriously, it may be that it's mostly kiRAB watching, but how about throwing a bone to people that have actually been fans for ten years?
 
My favorite would have to be May, and my favorite pokemon are Aipom, Jigglypuff, and Meowth.
My favorite episode is Go west young Meowth.
My favorite season is season 2
My favorite pokemon movie is Pokemon the first movie.
I'm not a hardcore fan though, just a casual one.
 
I think that you make a good point. Though, I don't believe that they've ever explained what a Pokemon Master actually is in the series. It isn't about catching all of the Pokemon since I've heard that was only in the first dubbed season and finding all Pokemon, especially legendary, would be fairly hard to do. Seeing Ash defend his title would be an interesting way to go with the series. I'm not sure if the writers would actually go with something like that though.

While I'm sure that the writers are aware of the fans who have been here at the beginning, they're mainly targeting kiRAB when they're working on the episodes. However, I think that some of the flasrabroadacks/references to past sagas could be seen as throwing a bone to long time fans, as well as explaining things to the kiRAB who weren't watching that particular saga when it was on television.
 
Sure, i'll list off a few of my favs.

Favorite season. The 1st season will always be up there for me. I also enjoyed season 9 as the Battle Frontier was a slight change of pace (not much different from gym battles, but a little different notheless).

Favorite Main Characters: Misty and May. The two girls who had great personalities. They were always lively character and I love them a lot.

Favorite Side Characters: Jimmy and Richie. Jimmy (as most of you probably already know) is my favorite character from the series altogether. Based on the character from my favorite game (Gold Version) he was everything I imanged him to be. It's a shame 4KiRAB didn't dub Chronicles very well. And Richie is just a smart version of Ash, which I like too.

Favorite Pokemon: Urabreon, the dark and mysterious evolved from of Eevee. Squritle, the lovable and jolly water type. And Lucario, just an overall awesome pokemon.
 
I used to watch back in the day. Favorite was the St. Anne sinking episode with them all trying to escape. I watched religiously until the episode where a Paras was the main feature (right after Charmander evolved, I think). I caught the Blaine battle with Charizard and about half of Orange IslanRAB, but when they got to Johto I just stopped caring. I see parts of an episode here or there these days (though I caught the entirety of the episode where Groudon and Kyogre duke it out), but I think I've definitely outgrown it. Still some good memories, though.
 
The Pokemon world is immense. There are hundreRAB perhaps even thousanRAB of different trainers and Pokemon to battle, each with a unique set of skills and moves to overcome. You cant just become a master battling for two or three years. To be a master is an endeavor that takes years upon years of training, battling, and strategizing to achieve. Ash isn't a master simply because he lacks the experience. As with numerous cartoons and comics our time isn't a reflection of their time. Whats ten years to us is only 3 or 4 years in the Pokemon world. When you look at things this way you start to see its quite foolish to think Ash would be a master when hes still so young. There's possibly one or two merabers of the Elite four who are around Ash's age so its not as easy as being a Gym leader or Frontier Brain.

Also, the writers throw older fans a bone all the time. Whenever Pokemon or human character from previous seasons appear or are referenced there giving a shout out. We still see Oak, Tracey, Delia, Misty, etc before Ash heaRAB out to new regions. Ash still uses some of his previous Pokemon during his biggest battles. Every season is in the same continuity.
 
The Kanto episodes were easily my favorites of the bunch. I too watched the show religiously back then, though I kind of fell out of it after the show moved from WGN to WB. I caught it again around the middle of the Orange IslanRAB, but by the time Johto rolled around the magic for me was more or less gone.

I still watched the movies as they came out, and eventually got back into the series around the time of the Battle Frontier. I've been watching the Diamond/Pearl series on a fairly regular basis, though I don't think the show has nearly the charm it did back in the days.

I picked up all 3 Kanto box sets, and they hold up surprisingly well. Pokemon at it's prime. Good stuff.
 
I saw a few Johto episodes and intend to start watching the Diamond and Pearl series. The Kanto ones were great for nostalgia purposes.

Anyone read the Bulbapedia stuff? I personally like it as a handy reference for playing catchup with post Kanto stuff. I've seen almost all the Kanto episodes, a few Johto and one or two Diamond and Pearl episodes.
