Pokemon Diamond & Pearl Boxset Question

Can anyone help me confirm that the Pokemon Diamond & Pearl Boxset has two different covers? The one I have shows different images of Ash, Pikachu, Turtwig, and Aimpom. Chimchar and Staravia are also on the cover.

I've looked all over the net and every image shows the cover displayed here: http://www.animenation.com/d-pmdpbs1.html

Well, if you want to get specific, it has two different sides, and you are probably thinking of the side that's considered to be the back, not the cover, because they do have different images on the sides. Ironically speaking though, while I have seen box set 1 and 2 available, I have never seen box set 3 (with Team Rocket).

Nah, its the front cover. The back cover displays four Pokemon and a two paragraph summary of the series. I think you might be confused with the single volume releases. The boxset contains two volumes with a box to hold the both of them.

Edit: If you type "Pokemon Diamond And Pearl English DVD" into ebay you can see the back and front cover of the one I possess.

I wouldn't buy these DVRAB, there is no Japanese version. And on top of that, this arc is too recent.

I'd track down the Kanto and Orange DVRAB for nostalgia purposes and to see how the show began. Those were recently released in boxset form so they're easy to get.

If you're not going to buy the DVRAB, then simply don't post in the thread. You're not really adding anything to the conversation by doing this.

...Sorry, but it just bothers me a bit when people post in a thread just to say they refuse to buy the DVD that the topic is about.

I guess I'm still holding out for PUSA to release bilingual DVRAB. Now that Pokemon is no longer produced by 4kiRAB, I would have thought that PUSA would make more of an effort to get the Japanese version released in the U.S.

So far, no dice. I guess PUSA is just as bad as 4kiRAB, and its a shame the original version of Pokemon will never get an official release. The dub is ok, but the Japanese version is a lot funnier and has much better BGM.

While it's true that this arc is recent, some people would like to get the season sets now as apposed to later. Besides that, they only play Battle Dimension on CN now so some people would also like to see how the saga started again. I have the first two sets and it didn't really bother me that the saga was recent. It was still fun to watch the episode and see how things turned out. Besides that, the main reason I'll be getting the third set in the near future is because of the awesome Tag Battle arc.

I'm sorry, but why would PUSA would release the Japanese version on DVD? I respect and understand that you feel that the Japanese version is funnier has has better BGM, but I don't see any evidence as to why they would do anything with the Japanese version. Most companies who do release the Japanese version are aiming at teenagers and young adults, depending on the show. Considering the material and specific target audience for Pokemon, I don't think too many people would be that interested in it. At least not the target audience PUSA is focusing on for the show.

Besides that, I think that it would be too expense for them to go back and get the Japanese release. I'm sure that PUSA could afford it, but the problem would be if it would be worth doing so considering that they would have to buy the rights to the music, add subtitles, etc. If there was like a massive outcry from the target audience for subtitles, for some odd reason, then PUSA would probably at least give it some consideration. Since I don't think that is the case, I think PUSA is going to stick with going the regular DVD route with their dub.

Yes it was. The third Diamond and Pearl boxset was released during the middle of March. The 17th to be exact I believe.

As for the original question of this thread, the Diamond and Pearl box sets do have different covers. The first one has Ash with Aipom, Turtwig and Pikachu. The second set has Dawn with Piplup, Buneary and Pachirsu on it. The final set has Team Rocket on it. I was surprised with that since I thought that they would put Brock on the cover.

The one I bought looks like this:

I'm really curious as to why VIZ would create two different covers for a release that isnt even a year old. Its really strange.

CyberCubed is alright with experessing his opinion. I mean I wouldn't mind getting Pokemon Diamond and Pearl if I haven't seen the first series on TV but then I might hold off until Viz gets the HD episodes from Pokemon's recent season in Japan.

Now I understand the question. I think that I misunderstood it at first. The image that you have there is the first Diamond and Pearl box set. The one that was in the first post of this thread was from the single disc. For some reason, VIZ has released two single disc and a box set that has all of the episodes from the single discs at about the same time. I don't know why they would do that since I think that most people would go for the box set. It does contain just as many episodes as the singles and depending on where you buy it, it can be cheaper than the single discs. Hope that helps you out.

Actually the reason they release them at the same time is sneaky but smart. See, they make the 2 individual releases $14.98 each. They realize that people will buy one volume at a time if they can only afford one volume. Meanwhile, there are people who will only buy them in box sets, so they put the two together at a slightly cheaper price of $24.92. The actually end up making roughly $5 more profit on the people who buy the individual volumes because they can only buy one at a time.

The single disc volumes look like this:

http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/7r6btUQEpuEedcuiiH/browse/item/80333/4/0/0

So I'm guessing guessing the boxset I bought is a 2nd edition.

That makes sense. I thought that buying the box set was about five dollars cheaper than buying the two single disc. Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh yeah. I forgot that the single discs just had Pokemon on them. My mistake. I don't really think that the box set you bought is a second edition. Have you already gotten the box set? It might be that they didn't update the actual cover or that they weren't able to put that cover on their website. I see that cover for the first box set on websites like Amazon often, but the cover to my box set is like I described.
