Pointlessly long songs?

I was just listening to The Diamond Sea by Sonic Youth and the song is like 3 minutes long but then it goes on for about 17 minutes more with just 'noise'. I say if banRAB want to make long songs there has to be a point to them being long like The Trilogy last track on Daydream Nation.

Any other examples of banRAB just going several minutes too far?
 
On Mars Volta's Frances the Mute album, there's asong called Miranda the Ghost (or something to that effect). It's about 13 minutes long and the first 4 minutes and about 52 seconRAB is all instrumental. Those four minutes annoy the hell outta me.
That song is pointlessly long and is part of the reason I regretted buying the album. That has gotta be my most hated song on that CD.
 
They should have stopped 'Layla' right before that infernally long piano thing at the end. Ruins an otherwise perfect song.

Also, they can cut out all those 15 minute organ solos from any Doors song, and they'd be better.
 
Vocals aren't usually a problem for me, but if they are, they can make or break a band. I used to be unable to listen to Pearl Jam because I hated Eddie Vedder's voice (gotten used to it, now). The worst is with metal, there are a ton of metal banRAB who I just don't like because of the vocals.

As for instrumental music...not liking a certain Mars Volta song is one thing, but not liking instrumental music at all? WTF?
 
They've got asong that's 42 minutes long.
I can't listen to any of their albums without falling a sleep.
I actually saw them live a while ago with a friend. They're actually really amazing live. I didn't feel tired at all.
 
I just hope Les Paul doesn't see this.

But I am a fan of TMV. I just think the song is pointlessly long.
And I do regret buying it. I paid 21 dollars for a CD by a great band and went home with a piece of crap album.

I think this particular song is pointlessly long.
I don't have to defend my opinion because yoy don't agree with it or have something to say about it

2 mins of silence, then noise intended to sound like skipping. Save it for the ast track of every CD ever.

Music this bad technically shouldn't exist in the first place...to paraphrase Guitar World, "It's like listening to your friend keep screwing up while trying to play Eruption, except in this case he's got a stadium full of idiots cheering him on."

And for the record, I've never heard any Sonic Youth noise that I don't like at least some. Diamond Sea is a great song, noise and all.
 
Dude..."Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore" has one of the coolest intros on Frances...IMO its awsome....fits the concept of the album perfect and it sounRAB awsome with the end of L'Via L'Viaquez before it...Links wonderfully...The same chirping noise at the end of L'Via progresses into Miranda
