pointless nude scenes

Naked but not nude?
If you watch the tv programme NCIS you will get the body or bodies in the lab. The makers of the show go to great length to make sure that despite the victim being naked for the autopsy all the naughty bits seem to be missing. A very bright light shines down and men and women all look the same as if these poor folk never had the bits that make it possible for children to be made. These people were made by magic.

Swordfish is the only one that springs to mind, utterly pointless scene to boost a shite film. Can't believe a friend recommended this to me when it came out, I've never listened to him since. :p

A film with a pointless nude/sexs cene in ? ummmmm.... Watchmen.

A brilliant movie that was interupted with a pointless 5 min sex scene that was just a total distraction to what was going on. It felt out of place and lasted to long, it should of been cut from the final version.

The thing that gets me about the Halle Berry scene in Swordfish was that they specifically paid her an extra $500k to get topless, and prior to that she had gone out of her way to say that she'd never do it unless it was essential for the storytelling of the film.

Even back in the early 90s before she was a big name star, she had a body double for her brief role as a stripper in The Last Boy Scout - and that was just an arse shot in a pair of chaps.

The sex scene in Watchmen is to show how the costumes and the recsue are a turn on for the pair of them. As ordinary civilians in their ordinary lives, they failed to connect. Chuck in a bit of spandex and some sweaty heroics and they are at it like rabbits. It's part of the original comic and not just thrown in for effect.

Plus, it was hot.

I prefer the NCIS way of doing things. In England shows like Silent Witness INSIST on showing EVERYTHING. I don't know about you, but seeing an old man wrinkly dangly bits puts me right of me dinner and is totally unnecessary. There is NO reason for showing a 'dead' girls pubic reason. We know she's dead, we know she's being cut open, why do we need to see all of her breasts and nether-regions.

NCIS do it perfectly, lighting, towels(?), choice camera angles. Just cos we don't see everything in NO way ruins the plot.

But maybe this is just me.

This is a difficult one to answer. There are many pointless nude scenes in films and the films would be just as good, if not better without the scenes, but i'm not going to be the one to complain and remove them :D

On a serious note - Any Keira Knightley nude scene. Nothing to look at ;) :D

aww poor keira. yeah, she may not be the most well endowed girl but, at least when shes got a bit of weight on her, she is very pretty and besides small (or practical non-existent) can be be great too

Demonstrated most embarrassingly in a movie called Cross My Heart with Martin Short and Annette O'Toole, where we got to see Annette naked but not Martin. (Which could be considered an act of kindness. :) )

I don't know why I have left the "comfort" of the normal technical forums to read this thread :D

Look, if we take this a step further then we can also avoid restaurant scenes (or any similar type of scenes). Reword soulboy77's posting to "I mean, if the male and female leaRAB disappear off to KFC and the film cuts to them leaving, then everyone will assume some food has been consumed without actually showing it". We could soon get to a point where all films just consist of various characters talking against a grey background. As long as some form of dialogue occurs, then what does it matter what the background of the scene is? How many important conversations have been made during car journeys? Driving, eating, shagging, what does it matter? Obviously, the situation is important and integral to some scenes; however, not in many others. So, the scene may as well be in a bedroom as anywhere else. Too many restaurant scenes may encourage people to over eat and become fat! :D

NCIS don't insist on showing you graphic depictions of the insides of peoples bowels like UK dramas do, so yes I'm ok with that. There's a time and a place for dangly bits and during NCIS and the CSIs is NOT the time.

By Jupiters Cock that time is during Sparatcus. :D
