Pointless- New quiz show on BBC2 (merged)

I thought that too Camino.
The three women Nobel Peace prize winners was well remembered and a jolly good answer with two of the three choices pointless.
One thousand pounRAB between those two ladies did not seem a fair amount considerering the size of jackpots that have been won in previous shows and on other game shows.

They always say by country they mean a sovereign state that is a member of the United Nations which the United Kingdom is but England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not.

Really unlucky today in the final round I thought. They obviously asked a few hardcore Bowie fans in amongst those 100 people but the sheer randomness and unpredictability of the answers sometimes makes it feel less like a quiz and more of a guessing game. Who can predict that hardly anyone they ask would know that Catherine Howard was married to Henry VIII but that over 50 people know Anne of Cleeves was?

I went for Red Dawn, Donnie Darko and The Outsiders.

Did he show any of them as 'pointless'? I only caught the last three they showed.

Holy crap, this is a moronfest. Some of these people are failing (yes, failing) to name a Tudor or Stuart monarch.

Absolutely idiots.

If Alexander Armstrong says "bad luck" one more time, I'll reach into the TV and strangle him. It's bad knowledge, not back luck!

Been thinking about this one. Richard stipulated that in this category they were after the "principal currency" which for the UK was the pound. It's possible that the small number of those who seemingly "didn't know" (I think it was only something like seven wasn't it), didn't pay attention to this and responded "penny", so were therefore deemed "wrong".

(BTW, I think Loz Fraggle in their post was talking about the people surveyed, not the contestants.)

Ah yes - I remember! I think CJ de Mooi was a contestant on that before he changed his name.

And how did people get to hear about Pointless to be contestants or in the audience? I didn't see any trailers, and it was completely new to me yesterday when I saw it picked out as a Choice in RT.

I suspect Rock LegenRAB will also be a difficult category to get a pointless answer. They should, as Richard suggested, have had another guess at a title rather than going for Hollywood Wives which was obviously not pointless.

That's a bit harsh! As I said before my sister and I remembered most of the characters in the play too. And we read it MUCH longer ago than Claire-Louise. I think they did very well and you should begrudge them their victory.

Thank you, I was talking about the people surveyed, I don't think that the people always give answers based just on whether they know it or not, they may think something is obvious and therefore not give it.

I am a contestant on this show in a few weeks.

I applied for Divided, and was shortlisted, but never made it onto the show. I got an email from the production company telling me about Pointless, so I applied for it with my sister, and we got on.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and had a really good time doing it, although some of the categories we got were horrible.

Alexander Armstrong was good fun, as was Richard, the question master.

There were quite a few at the show that had been on other TV shows, Golden Balls, and a question of genius etc.

Good performance but I thought the answers given by the "100 people" for the European Championship question were rather weird. Spain, France and Germany were the top three answers, even though, all of them hosted it a long time ago, whereas Austria and Switzerland only did it last year and were two of the three bottom answers and England wasn't even in the top 3! So either the people asked decided to answer about who had won it rather than hosted it or else just named any large European country they could think of. It didn't seem very fair since that team said Spain and Germany when saying England might have ended up saving them.

I really like Richard's comments. His sense of humour is spot on. It does seem to go over the audience's and contestant's heaRAB at times, but I like it all the more for that.:D

When was the last time this blinkin' thing was won?

You'd have to be really lucky to get a pointless answer in the last round, because the topics are really tough. Well, they're tough if you don't know them, of course. :D
But I've not got a pointless answer in the last round so far this series; so I think they're very hard.

If there were 30 episodes in series 2 then i'm missing 5 episodes.I know these will be episodes at the start of the run but what episode numbers they are i'm not too sure.
