Please share your lexapro experiences

So, I finally saw my psychiatrist today and he put me on lexapro (well Cipralex, but same thing as lexapro -- escitalopram). I'm on 10mgs, and my wellbutrin has been decreased to 150mgs. He informed me that the wellbutrin doesn't help anxiety at all (!!!), so I'm a but befuddled as to why my GP would put me on it, but it doesn't matter now. He also gave me a prescription for clonazepam (0.5mgs) to take when needed because it lasts longer than ativan.

What I'm interested in is hearing any experiences any of you might have with lexapro (cipralex)...please don't leave out any of the gory details: I'd really like to know what I'm getting myself into here! Any stories (good, bad, ugly) would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance :)

Most GP's don't really understand how anxiety works, so they prescribe any anti-depressant and see how you respond. Wellbutrin does help some people with their anxiety, if it's the right med for them. I was on Lexapro for my anxiety and that didn't work for me, so tell your psych Lexapro doesn't work for anxiety either if he wants to be like that lol.

Thanks for your reply, Lourage!

Fortunately for me my doc referred me to a psychiatrist because she's very into leaving certain things to specialists, so I'm glad I'm at least on an SSRI now because the SDRI wasn't as effective as I had hoped.

I must say though, today I do have quite the headache (a cross between a tension and migraine -- and it won't go away fully with 4 tylenol with codeines) and I feel somewhat spacey. I thought my blood sugar was low, but it's actually up (not out of normal range, but 6.2 when I woke up as opposed to the 4 range it usually is). The insert said it can lower or raise blood sugars if you are diabetic... I'm hoping this is just something that will pass.

I had a good experience for the short time I took lexapro. If I ever decide to take medication again, it would probably be that. The only side effect I suffered was slight jitteryness. My panic disorder was nearly slashed in half, which is a huge feat.

I sound like an advocate, and I'm really not. I hate the idea of taking any kind of chemical substance, but I really did have a fairly decent experience with it for the short time i took it. I actually stopped taking it, mostly because I never wanted to take it in the first place (Even though it helped! lol)

Keep us updated on how it's making you feel. Hopefully the headache is unrelated to the medication, and hopefully it works well for your problems!
