When I was 25 I started getting a twinge in my lower right abdomen. This increased over the years to include bleeding (black tar stools) and fresh blood. The pain increased from mild annoyance to crippling 3 day flareups now at 41. When it flares up I am unable to leave my bed for the whole of the time other than to use the restroom. At the age of 36 I had my heart attack and have 7 altogether to date and have severe tinitis in both ears. tests have shown that I have inflamation in the bowel and enlarged pancreas, liver, and gallblader. Often times of a morning I wake up with severe back pain that requires my wife to massage my lower back for 20-30 minutes before I can exit my bed. To top it all off I've begun getting that same burning/tearing sensation in my right forearm over the last 4-6 weeks. For the symptoms the doctors say I'm fine. (ok....) For the crippling pain I'm told these exact words by my latest doctor... "You're young. Tough it out." My wife has made me go to so many doctors, I have stopped counting. At some point most doctors quit practicing medicine and began practicing only pharmacology in my opinion. But even then the only medicines I'm on now are Plavix and Alprazolam for stress. For pain? nothing. They don't offer and have no intention on it regardless of the crippling pain and I'm not going to beg for it honestly.

I just want to know what's wrong. I'm getting tired of hurting. I've shattered all my teeth in my sleep from clenching my jaws subconciously. Please help. The abdominal pain is the worst. It's so bad I've considered doing an exploratory upon myself. (I won't don't worry) Any ideas?

P.S. I've had sever psoriasis since I was a teenager also if that helps any.

Welcome to the boards! So, I have to ask what you have done to this point about the colon and black tarry stools?? What does this do to your blood counts? Have you seen a GI doctor and had a colonoscopy and endoscopy?

Next, you may want to see a doc that is if you haven't already about autoimmune diseases. Thoses are two things that need to happen if you are going through what you are describing. Sometimes it is best to see 1 good internist instead of different types and PCP's. I too had to learn this and it does take many doctors to get to the end of things. Best of luck to you. Been to two good internists and they are the ones that found all the issues and still shrugged at me. None of the docs will even consider autoimune which I have brought up several times. It just makes sense that's what it would have to be considering the psoriasis and genetic heart disease (nothing can be done about my cholestoral even with diet and exercise and pills). So they basically just gave up.

I suggest you do some research on a group of autoimmune diseases called the spondylarthropathies. They include Ankylosing spondylitis, Reiter

Just because they give up, it doesn't mean that you have to. It is your job to keep on going. The above poster gave you some great information. I think in your case you should go see a Rheumatologist as soon as you can, insist that you get a referral if needed and get in right away. They have a whole slew of tests that they can do to test you for and rule out things, wheather you have them or not. It's nice to know definitively that you don't, I know first hand. Best of luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL:)

Great advice about the teaching hospitals. Lazarrus you are in St. Louis, get in touch with St. Louis U. hospital, go through their rheumatology clinic or Wash U. Try a Dr. Terry Moore, he is a rhuematologist assoc. with St. Louis U. I have heard wonderful things about him, haven't had the opportunity to see him yet myself.
