my lower back hurts so badly i cant stand it. i had an xray and it came back with nothing wrong. what other tests should i request recieving to find the problem??

I'm sorry about your pain. Unfortunately, an X-Ray will ONLY reveal what's going on with the Discs themselves (like a collapsed disc or a break of some sort). I think at this point you need to request and MRI. An MRI will reveal additional information - An X-Ray won't show if there is an Herniated disc. Years ago I suffered from pain and it finally took an MRI to reveal what was really going on. I had a large herniated disc at the L5 level.

So, definitely pursue it with your Doctor, you shouldn't have to deal with this pain without any answers.

I hope you get an answer and relief soon.

Do you know if you did anthing to cause this pain flare up? Did you lift something and have immediate pain?

Also, how long has this been going on? If it has been going on for a long time, definitely make an appt to see your doctor.

I would say that you should give it 6 weeks if the pain is not severe and try no lifting, bending or twisting and if you can tolerate them try an anti-inflammatory to help reduce the swelling. Sometimes we simply need to allow our bodies TIME to heal. However, if the pain is severe, forget my advice and see your dr right away. No one should have to suffer.

If after you have babied you back it is not better then I would definitely return back to your dr, explain to him how your pain is really not getting any better and request an MRI.

If they refuse to order an MRI, I would seek another doctor for their opinion.

Also remeraber that we are simply other spinneys and not medical doctors so your best course of action is to seek the advice of your doctor and listen to his recommendations. However, if you are not satisfied with their advice I recommend seeking a second opinion.

Good luck and please keep us posted. We care and pray that you will soon be feeling much better.

I too have been suffering from severe low back pain. My problem ended up being a problem with the SI joints. I have been working with a great chiropractor (you might consider a chiropractic approach if you aren't having much success with your physician). Also, I recieved an injection to my left si and that has helped a lot, I'm going back in to have the right side done. There are so many things that can cause low back pain, but I thought I'd let you know not to discount the si joints as a potential problem. Only a professional in this field can really help to determine the source of your pain though. Good luck!
