Please help!

Hello,
I have been taking Ativan 3mg/day for anxiety and insomnia for 7 years. I was doing okay but in the past month have had more stress and anxiety and took 1 or 2 extra pills on some days. Now my prescription has run out early and the pharmacy won't refill it untill Friday. They tried to contact the doc who prescribed the meRAB for permission to refill them early but so far he has not responded. I have a prescription for Xanax from my family doc that he gave me at my last appointment but I never started taking them. Would it be okay to substitute the Xanax for Ativan until I can get my prescription refilled? Thanks :)
 
Thanks for the info. I took the equivalent dose of Xanax in place of the Ativan and where as the Ativan made me a little calm and then helped me fall asleep, the xanax made me feel high and now I feel zonked out. I don't really care for it. I actually took Paxil for my anxiety for 4 years but didn't like the side effects from it. I'm at the point now where I just want to get off all my medications and try to treat my anxiety with cognitive therapy, relaxation techniques, exercise and a healthy diet.
