please help!

Hello all, ive looked every where and honestly this forum is my last hope.


I have had a cold sore for about 5 days (this is not my problem i am treating it with Abreva) And since ive had it the underneath of my chin has gotten very tender to the touch, and it feels like my saliva glands are swollen, i need to know if this is something i can wait out, if itll go away witht he cold sore, or if it is something ill need to see a doctor about. its never happened to me before, ive had cold sores before but this has never happened.

And if i have to go to the doctor, is there a chance ill have to get my blood taken? because i have a crippling fear of needles and simply cannot get my blood taken.

You probably have swollen lymph nodes. They are fighting off whatever caused the cold sore. It's their job and they gather up the "nasties" in your body and dispose of them. They may remain swollen for several weeks as they don't work too fast. Personally I wouldn't be too concerned about it myself.

If you start running a fever over 101 and start feeling really crappy, then you might want to consider going to your local family doctor. But I rather doubt that he will draw blood for this. But here's what you do, you if they do need blood. You just tell them that you have this unwaranted fear of needles and that they only get two tries. I've found that the nurses that draw blood are usually so skilled that I can't even feel the needle go in. Take your favorite stuffed animal along if that helps..... good luck.
 
thanks alot for this it really helps ease my mind! i dont usually give doctors trys unless they hold me down haha i have rolling veins see and they poke prod and jab at them its horrible... lol thanks so much for this really :D
 
I'm sure having tricky veins makes it difficult! Luckily my veins are very easy to find, but I have friends who have difficult veins and they say it's usually tough!

I also agree that it's likely swollen lymph nodes. Just try not to poke at them or touch them too much and keep an eye on them. It's normal to get swollen lymph nodes with infection or while sick. I've also noticed that I've randomly had swollen glands in my mouth. I have never had a cold sore, but I'll get random swelling in my mouth or blisters from acidic foods. I used to work for a dentist and asked them about it. They said that those things are pretty normal and happen to many people. They just should go away on their own with a little time.

thank you so so so so so much!!! i feel TONS better now, ive nee worring my self to death about it, actually to the point where im having trouble sleeping lol thanks alot guys
