I'm using retin-a micro and I just don't know how much longer I can take this. I've never been broken out so badly in my life and it's hard to sleep because my face hurts. I'm sticking with this medication because I hope it will help but it's so hard to go into work like this. Nobody there has a single problem with their skin and someone even saw me eating a cookie once and told me I should't eat so much sugar bacause that was probably what made me break out. It was one cookie. I don't even want to see my frienRAB, I can't stand to have people look at me. I just started doxycycline and hope that will help but I'm running out of hope. Did this work for anyone with cystic acne? did anyone break out VERY badly and have it help in the end? Please let me know, I just want to know if there's a light at the end of this tunnel.

Retin A may flare up the acne in first two weeks. Unless the itching is persistant, continue with it. your acne will get treated.

When i first started retin a -micro bout a 1 1/2 i broke out alittle. But within about 8 weeks i broke out less and less.Ive also been on doxy for about a month. The retin a basically got rid of most of my cystic pimples.Only problem is it leaves me with extremely dry skin,to where it peels and scales. Now i peel more then breakout,i dont know which is worse.Short of accutane retin a micro is the only thing topical that worked for me.You didnt say how long you been using it .Take care.

it really takes a while to work, my dr. told me 12 weeks, but it may have even been longer than that....it really does work though if u can stomach the initial breakout

I tried retin-a and I tried it for a year.. ntu to me it seemed that my face got use to it and just stopped clearing my face up... I stopped it because it didnt do me any good besides dry me out and give me more pimples... that is just my personal experience with the product..

I surely hope you don't consider the cookie-commenter to be a friend. Even people who "mean well" are really just infuriating because they're a) acknowledging your problem and, therefore, not providing support, and b) (this is a rule of thurab that all acne sufferers learn eventually) don't know the first thing about acne. They will always offer their helpful little tips that have nothing to do with acne ("Try getting a facial") and suggest basic things that you want to smack them for ("Have you ever tried washing your face? That's all I do and I don't have acne").

My experience with Retin-A is not a good one. I had the peeling and irritation too; some people say to wait it out, but I did and nothing became of it (except Sahara desert skin). The way I've come to think of it is such: acne is created by pores clogged with dead skin cells, the skin's oils also congest the pores because it can't flow through the pore, and bacteria sets in, creating an inflammatory reaction that is meant to protect your skin from infection. Retin-A is designed to reduce oil on the skin's surface, but where is it coming from? INSIDE. The acne will still form--the only thing Retin-A does is parch your outer skin and prevent surfacing oil from healing current blemishes and scabs. I'm not a dermatologist by any means, but sometimes I think I know more than them--who have they EVER helped?

Mad at my own acne, my apologies to the derms that simply lack definitive science (that we're all WAITING FOR!) ;)

Luck to all of you,
Kelsey
