please help with connecting my xbox with laptop to use windows media centre?

i wish to connect my x box with my laptop but it just wont connect, my laptop cant find it on my network but it is connect as i have x box live. my x box is connected using earth-net cable and my laptop is done wirelessly, when i enter the code that my xbox gives me for windows media centre it tries to find extender but it doesnt, ive tried turnin off firewall but no luck. please some1 help. thanks
