Please Help! Whats wrong with my 2000 Honda CR-V?

I bought a used 2000 Honda CR-V maybe 6 weeks ago with 132,000 miles on it. Its been perfectly fine until tonight when out of the blue it randomly started being extremely loud whenever accelerating. It sounds like the normal acceleration sounds i used to hear only way louder for no apparent reason. It also seems louder tho even when im just coasting. I drove home in a panic not sure what was going on. Theres no check engine light on or anything...Also, when i have it in park and looked around outside nothing seems out of place, including the muffler, but there is an audible rattle! Could the muffler just be loose? Please let me know if youve had a similar problem. This is my first car and Im really upset...
 
I hate to answer with a question but...
What model CR-V? Is it a manual or automatic? Can you give any details of where the sound is coming from when the car is idling? (Walk around the car and try to pin-point the location as best you can) Get under the car, pop the hood do whatever to see if you can get a better fix on where it's comming from, i.e. the engine, transmission, exchaust, etc...
