OK i have a 99 Mazda 626 and it ran completely fine and one day it like made a clunk noise and would let me drive but felt like i was pulling something behind me(goes into all gears just fine and i can drive for a while then it will feel like im pulling something again) i took it to a shop and they said it was the transmission it was just a small little shop but ne way i have a feeling its not the tranny for some reason how can i kno for sure...(the only reason i think this is because it ran PERFECT all the way up until then) What els could it possibly be thank you so much for every ones help....

Just because it was running perfect up until then doesn't mean that it could have not failed. the thunk is a big indication that something happened. you never put down how many miles where on the mazda, but if it's 150K or higher, it's very likely the transmission IS on its way out. something you may want to try to see if it is indeed the transmission is to have the fluid in the transmission flushed and a new filter put in. If it resolves the problem I would start saving your money for a new transmission. Often times when a service like this is done and it corrects a problem, it's a short term solution for a larger problem. If it seems to not make a difference, then there is a possibility that your engine had a problem and as it is heating up, you start to lose power. both are not cheap fixes. Sorry...

When dealing with such types of problems and not being sure exactly yourself what it is , it's best to go and get several opinions , especially if it's an expensive repair issue.

There are other causes of such problems so again be sure you have a few reliable shops check it for you then decide from there.

You might have a transmission problem and may be able to find another cr like yours with a bad engine but good transmission for quite cheap or buy a good used transmission with a full warranty on it etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way sometimes tow yards that have yards have vehicles that their just aching to get out of their yard , plus they might have a fully running car like yours too for cheap, all you need to do is call up the different towing companies and yards.
