Wondering if anyone can tell me if an ALLTEL xv6700 can be converted to work on CRICKET? I've seen most phones start out on VERIZON. Does it matter? Plz. let me know Thx KBB.

Yes you can convert the alltel phone. Most people use verizon because they're the easiest... Verizon doesn't lock their phones... However, you can use a sprint phone or an alltel phone. I know sprint locks their phones, so you'll either need to security code or an unlocker utility... I'm not sure if Alltel locks theirs or not.

I've heard that Alltell doesn't put any of the customized BS on their phones, so in some ways, it might be a better choice..

Thx for the help. Do you know were I can get the code or the unlock utility? I've never done anything like this. My wife's HP ipac phone "bit the big one". We had it hooked up to T-mobile. Cricket is $30.00 cheaper per month but in-store phones aren't even close to what she had. Found the xv6700 phone on E-bay. Only have 1 Hour left to bid. Any other advise would be most wonderful! Thx.

There are several utilities you can download for free to unlock it.

Alternatively, you can call alltel and feed them a BS story to see if they'll give you the unlock code (technically called SPL or subsidy lock).

Again, I'm not sure if alltel locks their phones or not. It's very possible that it's not locked at all.
