I also use lexipro, thank goodness my GP is on to it. He started me of on 10mg and i completely od'd and flipped out on the first pill. We just cut it back to 5mg and i swear by the stuff. I'll never look back. I do worry that people are being prescribed to higher doses. I they feel anything like what i did after that first pill everyday it's a wonder they are still here to tell the story!!!

I started lexapro 3 weeks ago on 5mg. I just increased my dose to 10 mg on sunday and have been a wreck ever since . I am having severe anxiety almost all day long. I cant eat and when i do i get nausea and bad diarreha. I am an emotional wreck all i do is cry. I dont know if lexapro is right for me or if this is just the side effects from upping to 10 mg. I need some advice. I have 2 little kiRAB that need there mommy back to normal. Please help!

maybe it's the dosage increase that is causing the anxiety? You think you can try and wait it out a few more days? Thats a EXTREMELY low dose, i started my first dose at 10 mg's, and felt nothing, not even side effects, but everyone reacts differently to medications.
It usually takes a good month for these meRAB to start working, although some people take them and come back here saying they feel great after like a week, which i mostly think is placebo effect, that or they don't have as severe anxiety as some of us and just seasonal anxiety.

People love lexapro, and they are lucky that it works for them, cause it's usually great when it comes to side effects. It's odd, but some SSRI's can actually cause the side effect of anxiety, kind of makes you wish there was more research done years ago on how to treat this disorder, but being treated with anxiety medication that has the possibility of causing more anxiety scares me to even think about! To this day though many people have said that SSRIs really don't work for that well anxiety, and it's only when in corabination with another med that they find them beneficial. Most anxiety sufferers swear that benzos are the only true anxiety relief medication, but thye are extremely addictive, and hard to come off of, but that may be a small price to pay for somebody who can't even leave their house and neeRAB help as soon as possible.

I took lexapro 4 years ago and loved it but I am on my 4th week now of 20mg and I still feel the same anxiety and depression. No change except very slightly. My doctor wants to increase to 30mg but I hope I don't need to. I am hoping by 6 weeks I will start feeling better, if not I need to start over which stinks.

My life is such a mess.

I went through exactly what you are describing. Started off at 5mg for three weeks and then went up to 10mg. It was like I was starting over from scratch. Good news is that after about 3 weeks the side effects started to abate and 6 weeks later I was back at work having made huge progress in my agoraphobia.

Stick with it. It's worth it.

Oh, and I still have some stomach issues but very minor and tolerable.

To the OP - I had a hard time on Lexapro. Had really bad starter effects so I switched to Zoloft which was easier for me to get on. Did your doctor give you a benzo to help while transitioning onto the Lexapro? It does take a while for it to feel better, but if you aren't getting any relief from your original anxiety after a few weeks, I'd see about switching. In my experience, the anxiety gets worse for a bit at first but I always have flashes - moments where I know it's going to be ok. It still takes several weeks to carry that feeling around with me all the time though. Hopefully today has been better for you. I've heard great things about Lexapro!

violet , I just want to feel normal. I feel so helpless right now . I had anxiety before I started the lexapro. But now I feel like its 10x worse. I am suppose to go on vacation with my family to florida at the end of feb. but the way I am feeling now ,I dont think I can bring my self to even get on the plane. I have such a fear of flying. I need to get better.

I tried Lexapro last spring. I took one pill and about when crazy! The side effects were terriable. Major anxiety and spacey weird feeling. I just felt WAY out of control. I threw them out and decided I would try and tough it out. I just couldn't push my way through to see if it got any better. I have no patience for that. Good luck!

To Ema78,

Give it time. Please. I just had my last visit to therapist precisely six months since my first visit. I pretty much consider myself "cured". Whatever route you take please fight on. It will take a while to get there and you will have many blockades put in front of you...including side effects.

Best wishes :)

Lexapro isn't for everyone. I tried Lexapro - I gave it 5 weeks and the side effects continued to be as bad for me as they were the 1st day. It just doesn't work with everyone. But you should give it a couple of weeks to kick in. My doctor put me on Buspar, which works in a different way, and it seems to be working for me.

I have taken lexapro in the past. I loved it, but it did start out a little shakey. As in, I was way too relaxed the first couple of days after takeing it in the morning. I answered everything with sure!!!! Then i would crash around 2-4pm and fall asleep. My Dr. recommended that I take the 10mg pill, and cut it in half. I took half in the morning and half at night. It was wonderful! I didnt crash and i didnt have the the overly relaxed/floating feeling anymore. I never had a problem after that....until my prescription ran out and my insurance quit paying for my Dr. visits. Good Luck!
