Please help Identify this Jeep part.?

It is out of a 1990 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L. There is a part attached to a vacuum line near the gas tank. It is a rubber cylinder about 1 1/4 inches in diameter. The total length is about 4 inches. One end has a plastic fitting where the vacuum tube is connected. The other end tapers to about 5/8 inch.

I am unsure where it is supposed to attach, or what it does. The other end of the vacuum tube goes to the center vacuum port on the charcoal canister. Is this thing supposed to be vented to the atmosphere?

It sounds like a vapor/liquid separator that connects between the vapor canister and the fuel tank. it keeps liquid fuel from entering the vapor canister. (charcoal canister). That's about all that thing does.
