Please help I think I broke it.

First off I'm real new to this PDA stuff. I bought my first PDA 1 week ago and just started fooling with it on Feb 16. So I bought a Palm TX because in was highly rated on just about every web site I went to when doing my reseach on PDA's. So Here's what happened. I hot sync'ed it to my XP home computer and loaded up DataViz Documents To Go. Then I got a scientific calculator program and put that in the Doc To Go and hit the hot sync button again. So the Palm was already sync'ed and I hit the sync button again. Now the Palm just powers itself on and off won't do anything else. I hit the reset button on the back but nothing. I let the battery drain down and reconected it to tne computer and it starts all over again power up and power down over and over and over again. So what do I do now.

you say it is hotsynced - so your personal data is backed up.

delete the scientific calculator from the documents to go folder.

do a warm reset first. hold the up arow while reseting (keep it that way till the reset is finished). see what happens. (warm reset prevents any programs from being run at startup)

if that doesnt help, make a hard reset. this will erase all your data, but the hope is, that the problem will go away to. tx has a non voltile memory, so draining the battery doesnt change anything. press and hold the power button while reseting your palm. after you get the grey screen, releas it and follow the instructions.

Tried both ways and nothing but just to make sure the reset button is on the back the power is the green stripped button on the top right and the arrow button is on the bottom far left. Now when I press the inner center button at the same time as the outer center button it stops and this grey/black screen comes up.

Man this sucks

>"Tried both ways and nothing "

What do you mean "nothing"? Do you mean that nothing at all happens when you depress the reset button on the back side of the TX while depressing the power button on the top edege of the TX?

Ok did a little more research and did a hard reset. IE hold the power button while hitting the reset then holding the power button down until the instruction screen comes up. After all that I re hot synced the Palm and it started again (turning on and off) so I deleted the calculator program and it still did it again so I deleted Doc to go all the Palm soft ware. I'm going to have to reload everything and start from scratch. This sucks.

If your hard reset and then hot sync - everything makes it's way back onto the device. So, here is what you need to do:

1. Hard Reset the device.
2. Before hot syncing go to: C:\program files\palm\(your user name)\backup and rename this backup file to backupold.
3. Hot sync.
4. All of your programs that you've added onto the TX will be in this backupold file and nothing (other than core programs) will be in the backup folder (which is restored by the first hot sync).

You can now add - one at a time - any programs from this backupold directory. However, I suggest you download clean versions of them and reinstall those that worked to avoid getting any "errant" files back into your TX.

This should get back to normal quickly.

I typically - before using a new program for the first time - make a backup of the backup folder and then compare the two afterwards to see what new files have made it onto my device and then I can delete them later if necessary because of conflicts. But then I'm very A.R. when it comes to things like this. Years of beta testing software has taught me......

Ok finally got it to work. I hard reset the TX and whipped all the palm soft wear and Doc To Go and the calculator. Funny thing is I got the calculator from this site (pdastreet.com) Reloaded and now it looks like its working. Thanks for all the help.
