...problems.? I need some help and quick. I was in a roll over accident about two weeks ago and totaled our car. We have a rental but the insurance company is making us give it back here in a couple of days. Luckily I have my Jeep, however I am having transmissions problems. I am in the United States Air Force, and after having forked out a ton of money just fixing our wrecked car and the deductible for the insurance, I am strapped for money and can't afford to take it to a mechanic. I need to replace my clutch/slave cylinder assembly and am waiting for it to arrive by UPS. But that is not the problem. When the clutch went out the transmission became stuck in first gear. In the process of trying to get it out of first gear the floor shifter came out but the transmission stayed in first gear. So I then got the vehicle on a lift and got it into neutral by messing with the gears. So that made me happy. But the mechanics at the Air Force base's auto lobby shop said that I need to drop the transmission and replace some rod that connects the shifter to the clutch because when the moved the shifter in and out of gears it didn't appear to affect the clutch at all. At least that it how I understood it. But I have to take it to a transmission mechanic and pay them to do it because the mechanics at the shop don't know how. When they said they didn't know much about transmissions that made me wonder if I need to even go through the trouble of doing all that work. I brought up the point to the mechanics that won't that problem be fixed when I install the new slave and master cylinder. They said no. But I am not sure how much I trust them with their diagnosis. Could someone help me? If you need more info or better detail on my problem I can provide it, just let me know. Thanks.
