Every time i press the clutch down to change gear it rattles and then when i release it it stops i am a new driver so don't know much about cars at all, is it dangerous to drive the car? and how much will it cost me to get it right again? i paid 1100 pound for this car please put my mind at ease cheers julie.

probably the clutch release bearing but could be the bearing in the flywheel, get a diagnosis before you book it in.

You probably need a throw out bearing ( clutch release bearing ). I'm not sure about where your at but here in the midwestern U.S. it would be around $450.00 plus the price of parts to replace the clutch. I would recommend replacing the whole clutch while their in there, that way you'll save money on the labor of doing it again when something else goes wrong in there. I would estimate about $700.00 total for everything new and the labor. As for " Is it dangerous?" I would say probably not but if you don't get it fixed soon something will break and the car will not move. GOOD LUCK!!!

hi
it is sure to be the release bearing, this needs the gearbox off to replace, if you can spare the cash, you would be better fitting a complete clutch, uk cost parts about £50 labour? get a good diy mech for the best deal,(no overheads),
