She stared into his eyes,
Wondering why he had chosen her.
She closed her eyes, trying to avoid the blows.
Squeezed them shut, trying to block out the pain.
Stars danced before her eyes, as the blows rang down.
Tears flowed as she tried to escape.
Her daughter begged the bastard to leave her alone.
But he only responded by screaming at her.
He grabbed her hair and slammed her into the wall.
And then all she saw was darkness,
And she felt the blood running down her face,
As her daughter screamed her name.
She awoke with a haze over her eyes.
All she could see was flashing red and blue.
The police had arrived to arrest the bastard,
And the ambulance was there to save her.
But she knew that this time she wouldn’t survive,
She looked into the eyes of her daughter,
kissing her forehead for the last time.
And felt her hand slip from her cheek.
The girl sobbed and screamed her name.
Begging the doctors to save her.
Knowing even then there was nothing they could do.
Staring helplessly as the light slipped from her.
Wondering why he had chosen her.
She closed her eyes, trying to avoid the blows.
Squeezed them shut, trying to block out the pain.
Stars danced before her eyes, as the blows rang down.
