Ok I will try to make this as short as I can....back in Jan I fell on some ice...I twisted my knee pretty bad and landed on my rearend pretty hard. I was told that I just jolted everything and I would be pretty sore for a few days...well that didn't happen...I have been dealing with pain ever since I fell. This incident became a wc claim cuz I was in my work parking lot when I fell. I have been to so many doctors it isn't funny. I have been to a ortho for my knee...he said I had horrible arthritis...which is news to me since I never had a problem with it until I fell! They did synthesis (sp?) injections which did nothing really. Then they decided that my pain was coming from my back and here is the mri results

I had a small bulge at L4-5 and L5-S1 with a right small tear. A little minor arthritis but nothing significant.

The mri of my rt knee revealed a significant amount of arthritis.

My pain is as follows: I have pain every day....my lft leg hurts consistently. Walking and standing give me a great deal of pain. I can't grocery shop, I can't walk anywhere for a long period of time. Going up and down stairs gives me horrible pain in my lower back and down my lft leg. I can't get in a comfortable position at night to get 6 hrs of continued sleep...its at a maximum of 2 hrs. and it wakes me up.

I tried to go swimming last week and my back cramped up so bad and it still hurts extremely bad. I'm having to walk humped over. I continue to work as a customer service rep but after I get done with a day's work I go home in horrible pain and spend most of the night like that. My husband hates to see me cry like I do and he is as frustrated as me....I don't think I will ever be back to what I was! Any help someone can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!

Besides an MRI, what other (if any) tests have you had for your lurabar spine? Have you seen a spinal surgeon yet? If not, that would be a great next stop to make. Have you tried physical therapy yet?

Do you have any specific questions you would like us to answer?

Oops Brenda I almost forgot to tell you I did 12 wks of PT with no improvement. My PT was great and she was really upset that she couldn't find something that worked for me. Although the tens unit did help a little!

SORRY your in so much pain? if i was a mirical doctor i would take away your pain! have you tryed to lay in the tub with hot water or take a hot shower? and let the hot water do its job? if none of thoses work maybe try to nave your boyfreind or someone to give your back a good massage? if none of that works try and take some extra syrenth tylenol? and if nothing works for you go get a second doctor to look at your spine?

Thanks for your reply. I did see a spine surgeon and he said I was exaggerating my symptoms and that I should go to a chiropractor! I had an EMG and it was negative.

I have had so much pain this week I can hardly stand it. I can't walk, I can't stand. I walk bent over because to straighten up causes to much pain right now.

Any ideas of what I should do???

I would suggest either a round of physical therapy or seeing another spine surgeon next. Some surgeons have major ego problems and treat people in ways that no human deserves to be treated. As much as this can impact you (many of us have experienced this!), there are wonderful spine surgeons out there who should be able to help you. Seeing a spine surgeon doesn't necessarily mean you will need to have surgery any time soon if at all.

Take care!

FYI, arthritis can occur after an accident. I had very little arthritis until a major fall, then developed disc problems resulting in surgery, then was dxed with full body arthritis due to injury to spine and joints. The lower back pain and leg pain sounRAB like an impingement on L4-5. I experienced the same when my disc was knocked in a car wreck and ended up having a mini dischotomy for that area. Make sure you get a very thorough work up as WC will try to deny as much as they can and blame it on preexisting issues. Even if you have preexisting problems, the accident can cause them to go full blown, and there is a secondary insurance fund they rarely let you know about that pays so it does not affect them when the money comes from there. Good luck, and I hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks Brenda...you have been so kind! I just got a call from my Attorney and he is sending me to another spine surgeon. I have to admit...I'm a little apprehensive after my last experience with a spine surgeon. I feel so hopeless these days...I don't hold much faith that I'm ever going to get better. I think I'm so stupid for feeling that way because I have read posts on these boarRAB of people that have been dealing with pain for yrs and I have only had to deal with it for about 7 mo's! I think the most frustrating part for me is that I'm no closer to getting an answer for this HORRIBLE pain than I was 7 months ago.!

Thanks again Brenda for responding to me!

I would check into Pain Management. They often have massage therapy , injections as well as medication management. Has your PCP offered any help?

You all are the best on here! I feel like I can get some support and these days I need alot of that! I went to my WC Primary doctor today and he put me on Neurontin. If anyone has had experience with that I would love to hear about it. My attorney is furious with my doctors and he is sending me to one of his doctors and paying for it out their own funRAB. I see him on Monday and he is a psyiatrist (sp?). I do try to relax as much as possible. The hot tub gives me a little relief and I use a heating pad on and off all day long. I have tried ice but it just seems to make it worse. The last doctor I went to told me to go to the gym and get on the exercise bike and ride 1 to 2 hrs a day. I thought OMG...how in God's name can I do that? My attorney told me "Don't you dare do that!"

I will keep you all posted as I progress through this nightmare! Hugs to you all

Well everyone...the diagnosis I got today is the pain is coming from my SI Joint...but now I'm in a war with WC to get authorization for treatment. My attorney is fighting the battle and who knows the outcome. Today is not a good day...I'm in so much pain and nothing is giving me any relief!

Since you suspect your SI joint, you might wanan try Don tigny's website for correcting jammed SI joints. Search Don Tigny on google and try his corrective exercises.
