Playing Divx Movies in T|5

I've read a few times on the web that some people are able to play full length Divx movies in their Palm. I own a Tungsten T|5 and I've been trying to play movies, but unsuccessful.

I'm a Mac user and I use the "Send to Handheld" droplet program to install files in my palm (mp3s, pictures, movies) and it converts them to a smaller file size/format. I imported a Divx movie last night, about 700mb and converted it to .asf file and compressed the file size to about 240mb.

I used TCPMP player to play these movies. I tested it and the video works fine. One minor flaw - there is NO sound!

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm not sure if the file format has something to do with it or is there another program I can use to shrink the file size about the same when I compressed using the "Send to Handheld" droplet program. I appreciate any help/ideas you may have. Thanks!!

You may have converted the video without the sound. Try playing the converted ASF video on your PC to confirm that there is actually audio in the file.

TCPMP has an option to disable audio decoding in its preferences so make sure that the audio is turned on there.

Also make sure that TCPMP is the latest version, 0.66 is the latest build.

I can't see any reason it shouldn't work other-wise.

I'm using FairUse Wizard (free edition) to convert movie DVDs to avi files that are about 250MB in size, w/ full stereo. I'm not sure if there is a Mac version. ... I was using Pocket DVD Studio to view the movies on my T3, but switched to The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP) when I moved to my Treo 650. ... Lemme know if I can be of any help.

TungstenEguy,

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate that.

After the Divx file was compressed to .asf file, it plays fine on my laptop with sound. The T|5 has a built-in media player and it plays there with sound, except it becomes "choppy" and "stuttering". Now when I use the TCPMP player, I unchecked the option saying "Disable Audio Decoding" and it gives me an error saying "audio codec (IMA ADPCM,0011) not supported by player". What does that mean? I installed most of the plug-ins it had and I have the latest version 0.66. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

OldBlue,

Thanks for the info. I'll look that program up and hopefully they have something for Mac users.

Do you know any programs that could compress a Divx file (.avi) to make the file size smaller? I have a bunch of Divx movies that I want to transfer and watch in my T|5. Let me know any thoughts you may have. Thanks again!

It seems the audio in your ASF files is encoded in ADPCM format, which is apparently not supported fully by TCPMP, at least in the way it's being encoded. The program you use to convert your AVI's needs to use a different audio codec, most likely MP3 for the audio channels. I don't know enough about any Mac apps for converting videos so I can't recommend anything, but I am sure there is something out there.

On a mac,

DVD rip with Mactheripper or OSeX
encode with ffmpegX or Handbrake (all free, all from versiontracker)

I can supply settings (and I think iiiCr has too) if necessary but I think I already posted them here somewhere...Il have a look!

SoS,

Thanks for the info. If you could give me some info on the settings, that would be great. I have Mactheripper, but I still gotta look up the ffmpegX and Handbrake.

Do you know any sites that would have info on how to encode/resize the screen to fit right in palm, quality compression, etc.? Let me know if you do. Thanks again for your help.
