Playing COD waw headset problem?

playing call of duty world at war. i see my headset available at the start screen for xbox live but i cannot talk to anyone or hear anyone. i have checked to see if i have muted my self but that is not the problem and have played with the volume but that did not remedy the problem. i have checked 2 different, old and new, headsets with 3 different controllers, old and new. i can see that my my mke is connected but i do not get any sort of communication through it. Any ideas? it worked earlier. this day.
 
Yeah, chances are, your mic is broken. You should think about getting a new one.
