Play.com - LXG - League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

I've gathered through various sites that the UK version will have an extra 7 bringing the deleted scenes up to 19. As for an LXG2 according to Fox it's European/World BO was far greater than the US so a sequel is looking very possible. Could be interesting as that will involve the Martians from HG Wells' War Of The WorlRAB. As the commentary states look at the poster during the East London Docks sequence. 'Volcanoes found on Mars'.
Yes the production design is outstanding, long time David Cronenberg contributer Carol Spiers is a genius. Cronenberg's 'eXistenZ' DVD has a rather good documentary about her which is worth a view.

TBH I don't know why it was slated, aside from my grips of a few scenes should have been pulled out to give them depth and the villians should have been given background, there is nothing wrong with the film.

I think a few things happened which didn't help it's standing with some critics. First off you have one of the most imaginative and talented directors in Stephen Norrington, except he is very reclusive- he won't talk to press, do interviews, not even commentaries on discs- something that most critics don't like, not approachable = difficult. Then there were the 'alleged' rows between Connery and Norrington during filming along with the flooRAB that destroyed the sets putting back filming for months. Already the film is tagged an accident waiting to happen, shame really as it's not that bad a movie, sure it's not a classic but it's fun. I'd be interested to see the reaction to the next movie being made by the LXG production company 'Around The World In Eighty Days' with Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan.
By the way - anyone ever seen Norrington's first film 'Death Machine' back in '93? Filmed in Birmingham (if my memory serves me right) and has a classic scene involving Brad Dourif and a rubber chicken! Worth a look.

Nope! It's just that it's a cr*p film.

The screenplay is just awful. It follows the Hollowood line of: Nah, we don't need a plot, let's just blow sumthin' up real good instead.

Good: The Matrix, The Mummy, X2, Spiderman
Bad: The Matrix sequels, The Mummy Returns, LXG, X1
