Planning on swiching to Android (Help me out)

Hello,

I'm a happy BlackBerry user, and I'm thinking of switching to an android because of the free apps and all the support.

But I'm used to type with a keyboard and I tried an iPhone for a day or 2 and I really didn't like the touchscreen keyboard.

So that's where the problem lies, everyone is telling me to get a Nexus, but I prefer a phone with a keyboard.

But those phones seem to get pretty negative responses and reviews.

Can someone give a comparison like how the physical keyboard is better than the touch, or otherwise.

Also my budget isn't very high so I'm looking for an Android phone arourn $200-230. Since I don't live in the US, (I live in Belgium) I don't have the possibility to buy a phone with a carrier here (We can't buy phones with a contract in Belgium ) Perhaps hard to believe for some people, but this system here is kinda ancient

I will be buying this phone from an military ambassy (through a friend)

+ I only have the possibility to buy it in September from there. So If you guys say wait untill then because new cool phones will release, I'll do that.

If you guys say you need to buy this or that phone, I can buy it from eBay

Thanks!

Well, by the time September comes around, there will be at least another 10 Android phones around.. There is a Dual Core processor phone coming in Q4 of 2010. there's some 1.5 Ghz CPU, powerful 4.1" screen phones coming this summer.

July 19th Motorola will release the Droid X. a 4.3" AMOLED screen, with a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU (Same type of quick speeds the Nexus One has because of the processor) the Droid X is going to be a badass device.

My brother did same thing as you, moved from a blackberry to the Motorola Droid. It's a slider, and has a keyboard as he was worried about typing on screen, Same with my mom. She got the G1. But now both of them only use the screen. Rarely slide it open and they both want there next phone to be touchscreen only.. I know it's a large move. But in the end you might not use the keyboard all that much.

If you need a phone now. I'd get the Motorola Droid. or wait for 2 months as they are releasing a Droid 2 that will have a keyboard also. OR wait til September like you mentioned as there will be plenty new devices by then

There are a bunch of Android phones that have a keyboard. At the bottom end of the scale is the HTC Dream, also called a G1. Then there's the Motorola Milestone (also called the Droid). If you want to wait a bit, there's the Samsung Galaxy S Pro coming out soon that has a keyboard.

Like you - I like my physical keyboards, but after using an HTC Desire for a while I found the touch screen keyboard pretty good. It just takes a while to get used to it. Virtual Keyboards are better on devices with bigger screens, so take into account that the iPhone has a relatively small screen by modern standards. Most high end Android phones (Desire, Incredible, Droid, etc) have bigger screens than the iPhone.

Secondly, because this is Android, you can use any Virtual Keyboard that you like. There are several good ones on the Market. The world record for speed typing text on a mobile phone was done on an Android phone running the virtual keyboard Swype, so it's certainly possible to type extremely fast.

Finally, virtual keyboards pop up suggestions as you type, allowing you to type the first few characters of a word and then just hit the correct word that is suggested. This greatly speeds up typing.

Well I have a slider TouchPro2 here with swype on it and I'm going to test that one, I don't really like the long sliders so perhaps I might just switch to a touchscreen.

Is there any touchscreen now for around 200-230$, or will there be any new devices particulary to wait for until sept?

And do I need to wait for a phone with Froyo, I mean, is it that much better?

Like HTC Wildfire?

Also the Motorola Backflip caught my eye
