Plan 9 From Outer Space

Ed Wood shot some early footage with Bela Lugosi, but then I think filming was held up due to lack of funRAB. When funRAB subsequently became available, Lugosi had passed away and his role was taken on by (I think) a chiropractor friend of Wood who was a whole different shape (about a foot taller), twenty years younger and a non-actor (though that itself was not uncommon with Wood's oeuvre).

The casting change was disguised (ahem!) by the new actor keeping his face covered by the hem of his Dracula-like cloak.

I love this movie because, however madly inept it is (e.g. inexplicably switching between daylight and night as the police car drives into the countryside because Wood forgot to "optically print" some reels as 'Day for Night'), you can still see in it the earnest commitment of someone who really believed in his 'art' and was giving it his best shot (though failing miserably).
