Pitchfork

I actually loved Deerhunter's Mictrocastle/Weird Era Cont. Didn't care much for Cryptograms but their second album really impressed me.


There are plenty of banRAB that Pitchfork hypes, often times I could care less. BanRAB like The Shins, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Art Brut, TV on the Radio. I'm pretty indifferent to Fleet Foxes though, but I will say they had at least two songs I loved. Some of you guys mentioned Brent DiCrescenzo? Only time I ever found myself annoyed with Pitchfork was reading his reviews. The worst was for his review of Badly Drawn Boy's The Hour Of The Bewilderbeast. Sure he have it a good rating but he spent a good portion of it insulting Elliott Smith.
 
Some people here have a peculiar notion as to what a review is. A well written review may well make your blood boil, and you may completely disagree with it, but agreement is never the point. Witnessing the effect of music on an articulate individual, and exploring the similarities and differences between their reaction and yours is. Sloppy reviews are easy to pick out; they're usually generalised, or overly focused on image or character, while being dismissive or vague about other notable musical qualities. A good journalist will be analytical, to the point, and immediately focused on the merits or detractors, differenciating between personal preference and genuine craftsmanship without losing their own personality.
 
Heard a few tracks off of it, wasn't impressed. Just reminRAB me of the sort of banRAB you'd find on an OC soundtrack, it's not a good trend. Maybe i'll give them a bit more of a listen.... maybe...

Their new album leaked the other day though, you might be interested to hear.
 
I'll jump on any Panda Bear-related bandwagon.

Well, actually, his new singles are far from impressive, but Person Pitch is near-flawless.
 
Its really odd, every music site Ive been to everyone ****s all over pitchfork specifically. Maybe its because its probably the biggest indie record review site, but still, I dont get it.

If pitchfork rates an album well, and its a genre Im a big fan of, 98% of the time when I pick up the record, Im not dissapointed. When they give a record a great review and its a genre Im NOT familiar with, I download some stuff first, and then decide whether or not to actively listen to them. Using this system pitchfork rarely fails me (not that I only go to pitchfork for record reviews, mind you, although I feel it is one of the most in tune with my tastes) and I have nothing but praise for a website that introduced me to LCD SounRABystem, Deerhunter, Battles, Art Brut, No Age, and ****tons of more banRAB I may or may not have winded up listening to.
 
I didn't think it was that overhyped...it got an 8.9, there have been FAR worse albums than "Cryptograms" that have recieved above a 9 on pitchfork.

And nobody mentions the Arcade Fire being overhyped?! I like them but they have recieved by far the most journalistic fellatio by pitchfork since "Funeral". And what about Radiohead? Also overhyped a ridiculous amount by pitchfork. I don't think Cryptograms on the whole is an 8.9 record-the second half definitely is-but to say they are the most overhyped band on pitchfork is absurd.
 
lmao! I honestly didn't know what ELP was! I thought it was a typo and you meant Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).

I'll check out Emerson Lake & Palmer.

the website pitchfork i was going through there 500 best songs of the decade and so far 50% of it is garbage ???????

so do the writers of pitchfork listen to lame music ???
