Pistachios and cholestorol

There are some easterners who might disagree with that.

There's a great winery in Deming. Years ago, we used to take an empty
glass jug or two and the proprietor would fill them with delicious red
or white for about $5 each. I understand they are a little more upscale
now

My husband and I have been eating pistachios for snacks lately. I'll
be interested in his cholesterol count at his next appointment. The
only trouble with pistachios is that it is quite difficult to stop
after a few, the damned things are as bad as sunflower seeds in that
respect!

You're probably one of those people who walks around spitting
sunflower seed hulls all over the place.

Fortunately that fad has seems to have died down. It's been a while
since I've seen a pile of sunflower seed shells on the bus or a
styrofoam cup of nastiness on someone's desk.

Thank goodness they're in shells, otherwise I'd be eating them a handful
at a time!!

Since reading the OP, I also want to try pistachios to help reduce my
cholesterol & triglyceride numbers. I bought two (16 oz) packages of
pistachios from Walgreens yesterday - they're on sale at
$4.99/lb-package this week. As has been mentioned, the problem will be
to limit the daily intake to just one serving (1/2 cup - unshelled), er,
to a single handful. They definitely are 'addictive', as are sunflower
seeds,!

At least that's the price this week in my 'neck of the woods'. I don't
often shop at Walgreens, but I do look at the sales circulars from the
local Sunday newspaper. That's how I knew to get the pistachios at
$4.99/lb (in the shell) at Walgreens. The prices are higher at the
local grocery stores, about $5.99/lb or so, give or take a wee bit.

It is easy after a couple of weeks. Though, some days I do eat more. When
it becomes a regular part of your day, it is easier to control the
addictiveness of those tasty morsels.

I don't eat a diet high in the so-called cholesterol producing foods.
I've a genetic propensity toward high cholesterol. I'm pretty well
protected by extremely high HDL but I thought I'd give the nuts a try
and see what happens.

I've been eating mine right after dinner. When you are full, you have to

Thanks for the town name. I meant ask your friends, because they're

Yeah, I found that site this afternoon but the best hotel on the first
page was only 3 stars and I had no idea where anything was located
anyway. Very poor descriptions, but thanks. I guess we can just
drive around to find one we like after we get there. That's what we
usually do anyway.

We were in the RV when we were there. One thing about traveling in an
RV, you don't have to worry about bedbugs and you can cook your own food

One thing that needs to be remembered, is that NM is a poor state.
Outside of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and maybe even Las Cruces, you won't
find great hotels. That 3 star is probably the best you will get.
Unless you can find a bed and breakfast..but Alamagordo is not a
tourist destination for the most part. It is a poor town.

Thanks for the head's up, Christine! No place will ever be worse than
the motel we stayed in "way back when" that had the bed with a dip in
the middle the size of the Grand Canyon. We learned the next morning
that it was the Monterey Jazz Festival weekend and we didn't know
anything about it. Every place to stay in the area was completely
sold out. OMG! No place will ever be so bad.
