Pissed about buying texts

I'm so fricken pissed off right now. It's taking me so long to track down the right text books that I need for fall and as soon as I find the right book, *BAM* I'm told that the text has already been ordered and that I have to find one from a different seller. Fuck that! If the item is sold then it shouldn't be listed anymore. The site has great deals and it's easy to use, but it's so fricken frusterating to finally find the eddition in the right price with everything that's in good enough condition that you want to buy it. Fricken A. I'm just frustrated.

If you're in college and looking for books, despite the frustration, www.half.com is a very good web site to use.
 
I always waited until I went to the first assemblage of each class. Some of the professors told you that you really didn't need the text, except as a really really pointless study guide, and others changed their texts all together. Most noteably was the damned English classes.
 
Yeah. I know how that goes. Luckily I didn't pay for any of my text books last year.

Anyway, I went back and clicked on that one text again and it let me buy it now. So I don't know what was up with that.

And it's not that big a loss cuz I'm only paying $17.79 for a text book that would normally cost me $59.65.
 
17 bux, eh? wait till you have to buy your upper division course books...those run up there...... i had to buy this one book for an engineering class.....180 bux...im kinda lucky though, im leeching off my brothers used engineering books....granted they are different editions.....the only things that change in editions are the homework problems....so i wouldnt worry to much ....
 
That's funny. My college algebra textbook was $80 used, but my Partial Differential Equations text, new off the self was $14. Dover kicks ass!! BWM has a good point Mag, I recommend waiting until the first class meating before buying any texts, unless you have already spoken with the professor of that class.
 
thanks mag for the website tip, i was going to look into buying my books online this semester too. it really irks me when i spend $100-$200 on books for a class and never wind up using them. course, you don't find that out till you've gotten through the classes.

but i've never had a professor tell me we didn't need our books for the class? i wonder what type of classes you guys take?! :)
 
I had a professor tell me that we didn't need the text for a American Government class that I took fall semester last year. I think I only used it once to look at the declartaion of independence. (sp?)

And no prob. I got all 5 of my text books for $178.72. The most expensive being my Biology book wich is brand new, hardcover and it was still only $85.48. So it may get frustrating sometimes to use half.com, but it really pays off. I saved $91 and change.
 
In Computer Science and Electrical Engineering classes, technology evolves quickly. Hence, some textbooks become obsolete before they reach bookstores. Thus, the class schedules and catalogs are published too far in advance.
I've also seen cases in English and History classes were there are tens of thousands of titles about some subject (e.i.: Arthurian Legend, Napoleanic Wars), professors have personnel favorites. Many of these classes have multiple sections taught by different professors, blah, blah, blah...
 
I don't even remember how much $ I spent on my text books, all I remember is that I would buy it the first day of class. Usually there would be people from last semester trying to sell their books.
