Piriformis syndrome or sciatica

I was recently diagnosed with sciatica due to piriformis syndrome. This is the muscle surrounding the sciatic nerve and is an extremely painful condition. Since it is sort of an inflammation type disorder I decided to start taking 200 mg of Vitamin B6 3 times a day and it has completely taken away ALL pain. I thought maybe it was just a coincidence but due to a surgical situation for another problem I didn't take the B6 for almost a week and the pain ALL came back. Am back on it now and just wondered if anyone else has ever tried this?

Off to the shops to get some. . . . I hope it helps me as much as it has you. My piriformis is due to injury and a massive week long muscle spasm. It's taken me nearly two years to be diagnosed as EVERYONE wanted to put my siatica down to a spinal condition. I live in England and gp's and consultants don't seem to recognise this problem. It's taken a young physio to start putting me right. Thanks for the info.

can i ask just what real properties does vit B6 have that helps with that much inflammatory type pain? i REALLY am curious as i suffer from many different types of pain that some are inflammatory along with myofascial muscle issues too.

have either one of you ever tried a wonderful therepy called myofascial release? this IS the only therepy that has helped with some really insane muscle damage i have in my upper back and neck area. it helps to actually even keep any trigger points from repeatedly keep popping up too. i started it like three years ago just to give it a try and it has been amazing in how it has reduced my pain and just loosens things up up there. just wanted to pass that along since it DOES help TONS with pretty much any type of muscle crappy stuff. it simply releases that overly tightened up fascia that is what surrounds the muscle and contracts around it when inflammed? fascia also surrounds every single organ and blood vessel that we just have in our bodies too. I don't know why it works but it does. Also I do an exercise where I lie on the floor next to a chair, put my feet and lower legs up into the chair and scoot my bottom as close as I can. I stay this way for about 20 minutes and try to do this every day.
Hope something works for you!

thanks for the info guys. helen, the amazing thing about the myo release is it uses YOUR own bodies energy that is kind of forced back into it, with the PT person as just the "facilitator" kind of thing? it is just crazy how my body just starts reacting to this. he kind of "sandwiches' my body with his hands, one under and the other over like the lower diaphram area then the upper, with just only his hands, and in about a minute or so, my body just starts 'moving around like crazy. its insane hown this feels, NO PAIN at all what so ever. its just a really crazy feeling, but it is in that moment, working out/releasing the overly tightened up fascia thats surrounding the entire abdominal area too? he also does another therepy at the same time called craniosacral? this 'rights" the CNS as well as decongesting the dura? if you can find a really great and experienced(my pt guy has been doing this for about 20 years now?) therepist who does this, i can almost guarentee you that it WILL benefit you in alot of different ways. i have alot of different medical problems that also benefit from these therepies too. Thanks for that FB. Googled it and think my Physio kinda does a similar thing. . . really hands on OW! stuff. I will ask her if there is any difference, seeing her again on Monday. She is also doing acupuncture which I'm sure you've tried. Had 5 sessions now and I'm not sure it's doing much for me except hurt at the time, but, hell, everything is worth a try. There are some good stretching exercises you can google, that target the piriformis, too btw Duffy google .It's nice to know You guys are out there. Not that I want you to be suffering, of course, It's a pain in the bum.In my case literally lol.
Keep smiling H x

You really have been through it UGH! TY tho' I will def check it all out. When u say neuro damage is that numbness? Painfull numbness at that? I now have numbness (painfull) in my right bum cheek down the back of thigh to just b4 knee, then a bit in calf (not painfull). My heel is the worse to the point where I can NOT stand to put it to the floor but because my toes on that side don't have any feeling in can't stand on tip toe.(Damn ! the ballet has all gone to pot LOL) The sole of that foot is almost all numb except for my big toe and I get shooting pain and mad tingling aswell. The worrying thing is that this numbness is creeping ever onward.
My other leg has it now too but not too sore. . . . YET? I am NOT a whinger to friends and family,( at least I hope I am not) so putting this down here really helps because it can really get you down as I'm sure you know and really they just don't understand. . .how can they?
TY again x
