I really liked the film but I must admit I was a bit disappointed because I absolutely adored the first two films. The special effects are amazing, I loved Barbossa coming back, the appearance of Teague and I found the movie to be funny, sad and exciting.
However, there was a severe lack of character interaction there which spolied the film for me and I didn't feel that all the issues from the previous films were resolved. I didn't mind the length of the film at all but they should have spent more time focusing on old characters rather than new ones - I wasn't too fussed about the scenes in Singapore. I did feel that Captain Jack had to take a backseat through the film as it concentrated on Will and Elizabeth (who I have always thought are a tad dull)and to be honest, Jack is the reason I love the movies in the first place - I couldn't help but feel he was underused. Overall, I did enjoy the film but it's my least favourite out of the three. However, I know I will be buying the DVD. I would give it 7/10 though that may be a bit stingy.
For me it was one of those films thats good for the kind of person who likes to look for hidden meanings and like to think they know what the hell is going on when really it probably doesn't have any depth to it and doesn't really make all that much sense!
At the end of Dead mans chest jack is swallowed up by a sea monster. So how did he get out of the sea monsters stomach. He just turned up on some island. How did they know he was there? I may have missed the plot a bit but I would like to know how he got out of the stomach of the sea monster
There was certainly a lot to like about this movie but unfortunately a whole bunch of severly irritating stuff that ruined it for me.
I think people misunderstand the 'confusing' accusation that gets used in criticism alot. I don't think it's that the audience are too dim to understand, I think it's more that most of the plot doesn't make any sodding sense. There's so much going on, and a lot of it (I think) relies too much on the audience remembering passing information from the previous movies. For obsessives of the series obviously this wouldn't be an issue, but for general cinema goers you end up a bit lost at sea (ooh, pun).
Too much focus is on the dreary Elizabeth and Will - horribly acted by both Knightley and Bloom - Knightly can't do comedy and her pre-battle speech was just embarrassing.
Spoiler!
It's interesting that Captain Jack's reaction to Will's stabbing had much more impact and emotion than Knightley's wooden weeping
Most of Jack and Barbossa was gold though and thoroughly entertaining.
WAY too many double crosses though - many with no real justification or with immediate forgiveness following. Nothing was ever really sacrificed for these double crosses.
Regarding the Flying Dutchman theories for the post credit sequence - it's quite telling that half the audience didn't have a sodding clue what it meant. I also thought it was just the one day in ten years having failed totally to clock the breaking of the curse. Maybe this makes us all less than sharp for missing some important piece of dialogue - but with the chaotic and random bursts of information here there and everywhere can you really blame us?
Was also bugged by the big Calypso build up - so much promise for pissed off Goddess action and all we get is a giant woman, lots of crabs and a whirlpool. Where was her revenge? Her unpredictability? And why did she and Barbossa suddenly turn from best buddies to enemies in the space of 1 minute screen time. I swear I must have blinked and missed something.
I think this is the main culprit for the 'confusion'. So much being said and going on - most of it babble and rubbish - that the important stuff gets lost in the noise. Nipping out for a quick pee literally means you could come back and have missed more than a few important plot/character developments.
That said, it was fun and enjoyable. You really do have to let all logic disappear with the popcorn. It's not gonna change your life, but you should have fun (and a numb arse). KiRAB seem to have mixed reactions. I imagine the ones who have watched the previous films twenty billion times will eat up anything these films throw at them, but there were a good handful of course who were twitchy/bored/asleep by the end.
Just back from the sneak preview of the new Pirates...and I was disappointed. I've been looking forward to seeing it for ages but thought it was a real let down. It felt too long (by an hour!) and the story was all over the place.
Johnny Depp (although still gorgeous) played the campest Jack ever and everyone else just seems to looked puzzled all the time..and it just wasn't as witty this time out.
So it's out everywhere soon. What do you think?
Went to see it today, really enjoyed it. Much better than DMC - I think it was mainly due to the fact that DMC was the first part of this film, it went on too long and just didn't have an ending. This film, although leaving things open for another sequel, wrapped things up a bit.
Can anyone tell me what happens after the credits, we had to leave when the credits started to roll.
On Wordplayer.com...(think its the offical site of the writers)...there they confirm that 2 scenes had been cut but they always meant for the final scene to mean that the curse was lifted.
I was really let down by this film. The first two are much better. This one was too long and drawn out. Orlando Bloom was as cheesy as ever; he's probably my most hated actor at the moment
haha, you need to listen to his podcast, it mirrors what you say but in a 15 minute outburst of rage, quite entertaining, more so than the film i must add
I'm relieved i was really upset about the curse not being lifted so i'm happy now.
The chances are if another is made will and elizabeth wont be in it.
Keria has said she doesnt want to star in another one she apparently said she started filming the first one when she was 17 and this finishes it for her, i think keira and Orlando did really well. The whole cast made it enjoyable for me
