Better than the awful 2nd film but still far too long. Excellent FX though and bringing Geoffrey Rush back to spar off Depp was what the series needed restoring some of the lightness of touch that made the first film so enjoyable.
Yes there are Star Wars parallels not least the bickering over who has rightful ownership of the Black Pearl. Yes, the opening of WorlRAB's End had more than a touch of Jedi's opening about it too which I liked.
Just back from seeing it, loved the first two movies but not to keen on this one I found it quite hard to follow and a bit boring in places.
The intermission the film had here didn't do it no favours took me out of the film! still had fantastic effects and great jokes/fun bits to keep it going but the jumpy story didn't do anything for me! bit underwhelmed with all these sequels out this year not to impressed!
thought it was the best one out of the other two,DMC was a let down couldn't get into that one,
Johnny Depp was brilliant as usual had me in tears of laughing so much,Keira was really great in this loved her performance, thought her character was much better in this one she kicked some butt
Orlando again much better in this one,the whole cast was great and the final end credit scene had me in tears
sooo sweet can't see Orlando & Keira doing a 4th if there was one.
Where in the plot was it stated that staying faithful of ten years would break the curse? People are saying that the post-credits coda implied Will was freed from the curse at the end there, but I must have zoned out when this was brought up.
[EDIT: If it was cut, then surely it's not part of the finished (and so canonical) story]
That's perhaps the most scathing review of all time!
'Pirates' and subsequent sequels are what I generally term, "Meh"... That is, they rouse such little emotion from within that I can't find the inner strength to rate them on their technical merits above and beyond the sound of my own terminal indifference.
Just saw it and I have to say I found it average. Sure it'll please the fans but my god did it drag on!!
I can't say much else without spoiling things but to me it certainly jumped the shark with practically everything.
I might also be the only one tired of the Captain Sparrow character, but he was beginning to annoy me.
Goddesses? Giants? Multiple Johnny Depps? Pebble crabs? Edge of the world? Would be ideal for a younger audience if it wasn't for all the deaths, especially at the start.
What a truly attrocious,ghastly, pathetic,obnoxious excuse for a film.
Without hesitation the unrivalled worst film of the year and many years, by a country mile.
^ It was explained during the scene with Davy Jones and Calypso/Tia Dalma. That's why he went all evil and squiddy, because Calypso hadn't waited for him so he was doomed for eternity.
I also think it was mentioned in DMC but I can't really remember.
