Pirates 4 to be filmed in 3D..why?

This is old news! I've known for months that it will be shown in 3D. Oh well..

As for why its in 3D, its the de rigure at the moment so everyone's jumping on the bandwagon.

For a franchise based on a theme park ride, this isn't exactly dumbing down.

And really, the studio's hearts are in the right place, pumping away in their wallets.

Money.
Bandwagon.
And you said it yourself; "action-driven".

By the way, that was in order. :D

I don't mind it to be honest, it's a bigger experience..and Johnny Depp? In 3D? That's all my Christmasses come at once. :p

^Thats the thing. PotC IV won't be 3D exclusive - they're just filming it in 3D to get a few extra dubloons on top of what they get from the 2D release.

It then also means they're in the 3D DVD/B-R market.

This is why i hate that technology is getting better and better.

Every ****ing film has to be in 3d nowadays.

Films used to be about great storylines, now it's just about the effects.

This has warning bells of being poor to average thanks to the 3D.

I'm not convinced it works well when used with live action. I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D and found it distracting and generally annoying as it was stopping me getting into the film.
Every trailer I've seen in 3D with live action does the same. The one fore Street dance 3 or whatever the thing with Diversity in looked really bad.

However I saw How to train a Dragon in 3D and it worked a lot better. At times it was distracting but significantly less.
When I've watched trailers of animation ssuch as Toy Stoy 3 they too have looked and worked much better than the live action films.

Unless this film is being made as an animation I'm expecting the worst and it will be like AIW and the 3D will just be annoying and distracting.

I've not seen Alice, but I gather it was shot in 2D and then converted to 3D by a computer. That generally does a poor job and isn't a good guide to how good 3D can be.

The first three Pirate films had some of the best SFX I've seen, so I'm not surprised they want to be at the cutting edge. 3D can enhance any film, as long as its not over-done, by making it seem more vivid and real.

Animations are genuine 3D because they are based on 3D models, rather than taking a 2D image and guessing the third dimension, so they are a better guide to what you can expect from Pirate 4.

Unsure about this. Loved the first 2 films, hated the third, not even watched the dvd and had it since it came out. I want this to be good, and maybe it will be, but in 3D? would rather watch it in 2D if the choice is thier.

1. Having a 4th film is just cashing in.
2. Filming/Screening in 3D unnecessarily is cashing in.

...you might notice a trend.

3D is token. It adRAB little to some films. It spoiled Alice in Wonderland for me. Avatar was great, but it had the advantage of being mainly CGI so looked much better.

Really don't understand why there is so much hatred for 3-D. There are always 2-D versions out there for those that prefer them.
