Pirates 3

I watched Pirates 3? With J. Depp on Boxing day. What must be the most expensive load of complete rubbish. Apart from the outstanding filming and effects, the whole film must have been written by writers on acid. The only highlight was Keith RicharRAB who actually looked like a real pirate and made the rest look like Girl Guides at a fancy dress party. Is there anyone who actually liked this movie and can explain in summary what the hell it was about. It was liked they improvised a load of scenes, cut up the film and randomly put the film together. And now they are making another one! It surely can't be as bad - can it?

I didn't like it, it was too long and too complicated. There where some good bits, one what stanRAB out is the bit when they all pointing their guns at eachother, only to find they don't work because of wet powder. Also, I think them making another is a very bad idea, no wonder hardly anybody is returning, I'm still expecting Johnny Depp to drop out, and when that happens the film will be pulled. They where getting worse with each sequel, I'm not sure I liked the first one, I just thought I did as I like the actors e.g Johnny Depp and Keira Knightly.

I loved it, it's a while since I've seen it, but a basic summary is that the strange gypsy voodoo woman used to be with Davy Jones, and she was a sea god. She put him in charge of ferrying people who die at sea to the other side... but something happened (I forget what, I think it was that she got imprisoned as a human form, maybe?), so he gave up on what he was meant to be doing, and started collecting people on his boat, and he cut out his heart and put it in a box.
Anyway, the posh guy from the East India Trading Company wants no more pirates, so since he has Davy Jones' heart (end of POTC2), he persuades Davy Jones to destroy all the Pirate Ships with his big monster-under-the-sea...
The main cast, and the woman who is actually Calypso (sea god) go to Davy Jones' locker (afterlife) and save Jack because all the pirates are being killed and some condemed pirates called for a brethren court, but Jack never named a sucessor to him, so they have to bring him back.
Yeah, the court decides to remove calypso from her imprisoned form. Causing a big battle around a whirlpool, between some people from East India Trading, and the black pearl, and Davy Jones' ship.
By this point, the heart is with one of the parties in the battle, so that becomes something that they're all fighting over. Will wants it so that he can 'kill' Davy Jones and become captain of his ship (which must always have a captain) 'cause his dad is part of the imprisoned crew, and Jack wants the immortality it brings him. East India Trading wants it cause it gives them power over Davy Jones.
Anyway, during the battle, Will gets stabbed and Jack allows him to have the heart so that he can stab it and become the captain of Davy Jones' ship and ultimately live forever.
The End.

I'm sure some people will be able to correct bits of that.

Admittedly, it is confusing. I think you have to have seen the second one not too long before to really follow it, the two seem to go together in one story.

From what I've heard, the fourth one is the start of a second trilogy. (They're going back to basics with it, new story and the such. I think because of the way the 3rd ended and because of the amount of cast that dropped out, they kinda have to start something new.)

I love all 3 films. The third is overlong, and it is rarther clogged up and confusing, but if you just let your mind go blank... its a swashbuckling hunk of fun! :D

I absolutely love the original, wasn't too fussed by no.2, and *hated* no.3.

I do find the Beeb's scheduling amusing though... Pirates 3 on Boxing Day, followed by Pirates 2 on New Year's Eve

If you view it passively it makes no sense. If you engage with the film, the parallels between the different characters and the first two films become clear. Johnny Depp also does a good job of literally carrying the film as Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom look uninterested!

The first flm was fantastic, the 2nd was great andf the third was ok

Johnny Depp was brilliant in the films and some of the supporting performances were great as well

Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley (Especially the 3rd film) give terrible performances in all 3 films, i dont even see why they bought Keira's dull character back after the first film and it was totally ridiculous when she was made Pirate king in the 3rd film

I would prefer someone who could act than be easy on the eye

I agree with you on Orlando Bloom, but Keira Knightley has also been wooden in every film except for Pure (2002)

The first one was pretty good, the 2nd one was decent (in parts) but the 3rd one was terrible! I can't even sit through it. It's just one overly long mess.
